PeepingMoon Exclusive: Nushrratt Bharuccha reveals Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sial convinced her to do Pyaar Ka Punchnama, reacts to the film being called 'misogynistic'

Early in her career, Nushrratt Bharuccha delivered back-to-back blockbusters as the female lead in films like Love Sex Aur Dhokha and Pyaar Ka Punchnama. She was also seen in the latter's sequel and was paired opposite Kartik Aaryan. But did you know Nushrratt was unsure about signing Pyaar Ka Punchnama? Yes. In an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon.com, the actress revealed that it was all because of Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sial that she decided to sign the rom-com directed by Luv Ranjan.

Nushrratt, who had worked with Rajkummar and Amit in Love Sex Aur Dhokha, said, "Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sial are the ones who should be thanked for wherever I am now. I had worked with them in Love Sex Aur Dhokha and they were my only best friends in the industry. When Pyaar Ka Punchnama came to me, I didn't know anyone and that's when I called them. They told me to definitely sign it. They said, "Film hai, mil rahi hai toh kar lo. Yaha hum audition karke bhi character roles hi milte hai 2-3 scenes wale. If you are getting the lead role in a film, aankh band karke kar lo." I directly went to Luv Ranjan sir and frankly told him, "Mujhe aapki picture pasand nahi hai, but aap keh rahe ho bohot acchi hai toh main consider kar leti hu. Par agar yeh film nahi chali aur mera career end ho gaya, toh aap hi mujhe next film mein cast karoge. He had agreed and kept his word too even when the film worked."

Pyaar Ka Punchnama, though successful, was slammed for its misogynistic approach. Reacting to it, Nushrratt said, "It's been 10 years since the film was released and nobody asked me this question. This was a question only asked to the male leads and it did highlight misogyny. Now, what am I expected to say about my own film and society? We live in a misogynistic world, there is misogyny in everything around us. Even if we keep the film industry aside, women have to struggle a lot in corporate fields too. Everything is happening according to their (men) point of view. If we make a film reflecting their mindset, toh hum kaha galat hai? Change society's mindset, such films will not work. People will stop making and watching such films. Nobody will clap and whistle when monologues are said. Maine kitni ladkiyon ko dekha hai joh aa aake bolti hai monologue suna do. Mujhe batao usmein itna kya tha ki aapko itni baar sunna hai? Aapki buraiyaan hi kar raha hai na ladka, fir bhi aap taaliyan peet rahe ho? Pasand aa raha hai na aapko? Aap bhi maze karo aur hum bhi banate hai thoda paisa. It is a great discussion to have but practicality nobody can accept."

Nushrratt is now gearing up for the release of Janhit Mein Jaari on June 10.
