After the humongous success of Aashram Season 1 & Aashram: Chapter 2, the makers are back with its third part. Directed by Prakash Jha, Aashram 3 will stream on MX Player from June 3. The show is headlined by Bobby Deol and also stars actors like Darshan Kumaar, Esha Gupta, Chandan Roy Sanyal and many others.
Ahead of Aashram 3's release, PeepingMoon spoke to Darshan, who plays the role of Sub-Inspector Ujagar Singh. Talking to us about the show, the actor reacted to the polarised reactions, threats, and sets being vandalised and clarified that the team is just creating awareness and isn't against any religion.
Excerpts from the interview:
Are you excited for Aashram 3?
I am very very excited. After the success of the previous seasons, many people were eagerly waiting for the third part and now, it is finally coming. The trailer of Aashram 3 received a thunderous response and I hope people love the show too.
Did you expect the Aashram franchise would break records?
When I heard the script for the first time, I knew it that the show was special. I even told Prakash Jha that all the records will be broken. Now, the entire team has become like a family.
Do you sense any extra pressure ahead of Aashram 3 considering the first two seasons were successful?
There is no pressure at all. Prakash Jha was aware of his responsibility as a filmmaker and made sure at the scripting stage itself that everything falls in place perfectly. There are so many twists and turns in the show that people will not be able to take a loo break too.
Aashram revolves around a conman who disguises himself as a godman. With such shows being made in India, are you hopeful that the crime rate will further decline?
Of course. Aashram's main motto is to make people aware and inform them to stay away from such conmen. Humara Hindu culture bohot mahaan hai. We are not targeting our culture but we are shedding light on how conmen mislead and cheat innocent people. Jab bhakti andhbhakti mein badalti hai, tab betrayal hota hai. Aap shraddha rakhiye lekin itna bhi nahi ki apna tan, man aur dhan sab dusron ko de de. You should know whether you are being shown the right direction or cheated.
There were reports of sets of Aashram 3 being vandalised...
See, not every human being thinks alike. Our show is one of the most-watched shows in India and that indicates people are loving it. Those who are spreading hate and negativity haven't even watched it. If you watch Aashram carefully, you will know that we are not slamming any culture but we are just warning people against conmen. Even we have faith in God and believe Aashrams have the power to show us the right path in life.
Is OTT blurring the line between stars and superstars?
Yes, it is. Youngsters today are consuming international content. They know what's good and what's not. Superstardom is not important when content is the king.
After the humongous success of The Kashmir Files, do you feel additional responsibility on your shoulder?
If you have observed, I haven't done many films or shows. I try to choose challenging roles. My aim is to give my audience quality content as they spend their hard-earned money and precious time watching our work. Yes, it is the audience's responsibility to make a film successful but my job is to give my 100%.
