PeepingMoon Exclusive: Producer Sunir Kheterpal expands his lineup; signs Taapsee Pannu and Rakul Preet for his next two productions!

Producer Sunir Kheterpal, who’s known for backing films such as Rocky Handsome, Badla, Kesari, and The Body, among others, is set to have a busy 2022 with multiple movies slated for release in the coming months. The filmmaker has a robust lineup of movies that includes Anurag Kashyap’s supernatural thriller Dobaaraa, Abbas-Mustan’s Netflix film Penthouse, and Ali Abbas Zafar’s Shahid Kapoor starrer Bloody Daddy. In addition to these three movies, which are completed and ready for release, the producer is also backing the Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone starrer The Intern. And now, Peepingmoon.com has learned that Kheterpal has locked in two more projects for his banner, Athena ENM.

Industry sources have informed us that Sunir Kheterpal has signed Taapsee Pannu and Rakul Preet for his two upcoming productions. Both the projects are said to be female-led stories and will see the actresses frontlining the narrative alongside an ensemble of talents. The pre-production on both films is going on in full swing and will hit the floors by August 2022. While Taapsee has already worked with Kheterpal on Badla and the forthcoming Dobaaraa, it’ll be Rakul’s first association with the producer, known for his compelling, edgy, and genre-bending stories that have always stood out amongst the crowd.

The Taapsee Pannu starrer will be directed by Vijay Lalwani, who has previously helmed the 2010 psychological thriller, Karthik Calling Karthik. The yet-untitled film is also said to be a thriller and will see Taapsee delving into a revenge world she hasn’t explored before. The Rakul Preet film, on the other hand, marks the Hindi feature directorial debut of Nikhil Mahajan, whose Marathi film Godavari recently premiered at this year’s Cannes Film festival. Mahajan has previously directed Netflix’s zombie series, Betaal, for Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment banner. The Rakul Preet film is said to be an original, light-hearted drama set in Mumbai city and will get off the ground in July.

The Sunir Kheterpal productions are the latest additions to Taapsee and Rakul Preet’s already lucrative lineup. While Taapsee has Anurag Kashyap’s Dobaaraa, Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Woh Ladki Hai Kahan?, Ajay Bahl’s Blurr, and Srijit Mukherji’s sports biopic Shabaash Mithu ready for release, she also has Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki with Shah Rukh Khan in her kitty slated for next year. Rakul Preet, meanwhile, has four more Hindi films coming out this year after the recently released Attack and Runway 34. She will next be seen in Ronnie Screwvala’s social-comedy Chhatriwali, which tells the story of a chemistry graduate who ends up accepting the job of a quality tester for condoms. She will then be seen alongside Ayushmann Khurrana and Shefali Shah in Junglee Pictures’ Doctor G and Indra Kumar’s comedy caper Thank God, co-starring Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra. Rakul Preet also plays a pivotal role in Akshay Kumar’s Mission Cinderella, which will soon premiere directly on Disney+Hotstar.
