Aamir Khan has a lot in store for audiences this year! Besides his much-awaited Laal Singh Chaddha, which releases in theatres on Independence Day weekend, Aamir has also rolled out two small-budget films under his banner, Aamir Khan Productions. One is directed by his ex-wife, Kiran Rao, and the other by his longtime associate, Sunil Pandey. While the Kiran Rao directorial stars three relatively fresh faces—Sparsh Srivastava, Pratibha Ranta, and Nitanshi Goel—and has already completed production, there have been various speculations about the casting of Pandey’s film. Some reports recently claimed that Aamir’s elder son, Junaid Khan, plays the lead in this film, marking his second venture after the forthcoming YRF period drama, Maharaja, that launches him into showbiz.
However, Peepingmoon.com has learned that Junaid Khan is not starring in Aamir Khan Productions’ Pritam Pyare as suggested by the reports. The film instead features Sanjay Mishra and Neeraj Sood in the lead roles, while Junaid is only creatively involved. "Pritam Pyare is a quirky small-town story about two brothers, Pritam and Pyare. Junaid is not a part of the cast, as rumoured in the media. It’s a small film with a big heart and an influential cameo by Aamir. He shot for his special appearance during the film’s Rajasthan schedule last month. The film is currently being shot in a Mumbai studio and will be wrapped up by this month-end, "a source close to the development told us.
Pritam Pyare marks the directorial debut of Sunil Pandey, who’s been working with Aamir’s banner for the last 15 years and has assisted on the company’s every feature film since Taare Zameen Par. Pandey has also worked under the supervision of filmmakers like Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra, Kabir Khan, and Ali Abbas Zafar and will finally mark his debut in direction with a film he has written himself. Sanjay Mishra and Neeraj Sood, who’ve won the hearts of audiences and critics alike with their spectacular performances in films like Golmaal, Aankhon Dekhi, Rocket Singh, and Yahan Sabhi Gyani Hai, among others, will be joined by an ensemble of talents in this film, set to be released directly on a streaming platform later this year.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan has finally given his dates to RS Prasanna’s film. The superstar will apparently start shooting for the Campeones remake in October in Punjab. Contrary to rumours, Aamir is only committed to RS Prasanna’s film and hasn’t decided on any other project. Furthermore, his long-in-the-making Gulshan Kumar biopic has been indefinitely put on the backburner.
