Bollywood actress Kajol has been more selective and experimental with her roles in the past few years. Praised for her lively and spirited nature on-screen, the Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge actress has played mostly mature and complex characters in her recent projects, such as Helicopter Eela and Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy. Coming up next for her is Revathi’s Salaam Venky, a heartwarming true story of an exemplary mother who battles a challenging life situation with a smile. And post that, we heard she’s starting an OTT project.
Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Kajol is next doing a web series for Disney+Hotstar. It’s a female-led drama series and will see the actress playing the role of a wife and mother who boldly assumes full responsibility for her family. The yet-untitled project revolves around a woman in her 40s who, after having spent years as a stay-at-home mother, returns to the workforce for her children. The show marks Kajol’s web series debut and her second OTT project after Renuka Shahane’s Netflix film, Tribhanga, which revolved around a dysfunctional family of three women and their unconventional life choices.
Kajol’s Disney+Hotstar series will be directed by Suparn S. Varma, best known for co-directing Amazon Prime Video’s second season of The Family Man, while Banijay Asia, the Indian arm of Paris-headquartered Banijay Group, is producing it. The show is said to be dealing with the protagonist’s complicated relationship with her husband and how she struggles while trying to revive her career. Kajol is excited for this new beginning and will start shooting for the show in a few weeks from now in Mumbai.
"Kajol will play the role of a new-age mom for one more time, however, this show has a lot more to it than meets the eye. It’s an intense drama with crime, politics, and family all thrown in to make it an engaging watch. It’s a high-concept storyline and has been planned as a multi-season show. With Suparn Varma directing it, the show is going to get even bigger and better," a source close to the development told us. Suparn has already finished the Ray Donovan adaptation, Raina Naidu, with Venkatesh and Rana Daggubati for Netflix India, and is currently deeply focused on the pre-production of the Kajol starrer. The show is one of the many latest additions to Disney+Hotstar’s slate for 2023!
