PeepingMoon Exclusive: Arjun Kapoor signs Malang producer Jay Shewakramani's next two-hero action thriller

Arjun Kapoor has an interesting slate of films lined up for release this year. Acknowledged for his staggering performances in films like Ishaqzaade, Gunday, and Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, the actor will next be seen locking horns with John Abraham in Mohit Suri’s Ek Villain Returns, which hits cinemas on the 29th of this month. The film’s trailer was recently launched, and it has received a great response from audiences and fans alike. Arjun follows this musical, romantic-thriller with Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kuttey, and then will be seen in BA Paas director Ajay Bahl’s The Ladykiller, followed by Mudassar Aziz’s comic caper, Meri Patni Ka Remake.

Now, Peepingmoon.com has learned that Arjun Kapoor has added one more project to his already packed plate. The Mubarakan actor has next signed an action thriller for producer Jay Shewakramani’s banner, Northern Lights Films. The film in question is said to be a two-hero project, and while Arjun is already on board, the makers are still looking for the parallel lead. It’s believed to be an out-and-out action drama with a thrilling story that promises to keep you on the edge of your seats. Arjun has principally made his commitment to the film and will sign on the dotted lines once the script is locked. Marathi filmmaker Aditya Sarpotdar, known for helming Riteish Deshmukh’s Mauli and this year’s blockbuster zombie comedy Zombivili, has come on board to direct it.

The film is planned to get off the ground in the first half of next year. Although it was earlier supposed to begin in mid-this year, the producer has now aligned a 2023 schedule given the actor’s and director’s commitments with other projects. While Arjun has two films to complete, Aditya Sarpotdar is next doing Munjha with Shraddha Kapoor. He starts shooting for the Dinesh Vijan-backed horror comedy in September, and only after finishing this project will he move to the Jay Shewakramani production. Arjun, on the other hand, will be busy throughout this month promoting Ek Villain Returns and will get back to sets in August to finish the remaining 15-day shoot of The Lady Killer. He will then start Mudassar Aziz’s comedy-drama with Rakul Preet and Bhumi Pednekar at the end of September, and is expected to follow it up with John’s Ayyappanum Koshium remake later this year.

Meanwhile, Jay Shewakramani has a stellar lineup of projects scheduled for this year. Known for producing films like Jawaani Jaaneman and Malang, Northern Lights Films’ next on the horizon of release is Kartik Aaryan’s Freddy, a new-age romantic-thriller directed by Veerey Di Wedding fame Shashanka Ghosh. They also have Sujoy Ghosh’s adaptation of The Devotion of Suspect X with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Vijay Varma, premiering later this year on Netflix India. Besides these ready projects, the company is also working on the screen adaptation of Bhaavna Arora’s acclaimed book, Undaunted, which follows the inspiring journey of the hero, Lt. Ummer Fayaz, who set an example for fellow Kashmiris to break the cycle of violence with his short tenure in the Army.
