Kajol is back in the movies! Yes, she never went out of business and consciously kept doing films every two to three years, but we must admit that we missed her and always hoped to see her more often on screen. As her children are grown up—her daughter Nysa is 19, and son Yug is 12 years old now—Kajol is focusing on her career again and is open to films as well as OTT projects, provided they are engaging and strong in content and give her scope to experiment with roles. Kajol has already finished shooting for Revathy’s Salaam Venky and will soon start her debut web series for Disney+Hotstar. The yet-untitled show, as we revealed last week, is being helmed by The Family Man Season 2 co-director Suparn Varma and will see Kajol playing the role of a wife and mother who returns to the workforce after spending years as a stay-at-home woman.
However, that’s not all Kajol is doing this year. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that the DDLJ actress will also star in Netflix India’s second season of its critically acclaimed anthology, Lust Stories. Kajol headlines Badhaai Do director Amit Sharma’s short film, and sources say she has already finished shooting for it. "Kajol shot for the Amit Sharma film at the end of last month in Uttar Pradesh. It was a quick 10-day shoot and was completed on time without any hassle. Kajol plays a bold character in this film and is thrilled to have explored something she hadn’t attempted before," said the source. Interestingly, Amit Sharma has already done a sports-drama film, titled Maidaan, with Kajol’s superstar husband, Ajay Devgn, which is eyeing a theatrical release later this year.
Netflix India is returning with the second season of Lust Stories, four years after the first part that shed light on modern relationships from the viewpoint of Indian women, from strained marriages to sexual hiccups. The 2018 anthology was directed by Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar and Dibakar Banerjee, and starred an ensemble cast comprising Vicky Kaushal, Radhika Apte, Bhumi Pednekar, Kiara Advani, Manisha Koirala, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sanjay Kapoor, among others. "Lust Stories 2 also consists of four intriguing stories that explore the varied dimensions of love, lust, power, and status. And this time, Amit Sharma, R Balki, Sujoy Ghosh, and Konkona Sen Sharma have been brought on board to helm these real stories about real women, who are unapologetic in their imperfections and desires, and go about mending their heart strings the best they can," revealed the source, adding that Amit and Konkona have finished their short films, whereas Balki and Sujoy are yet to film their parts. The anthology is expected to feature a string of top names in the cast, but that has so far been kept under wraps to announce it in a grand manner later.
Ronnie Screwvala and Ashi Dua are producing this Netflix anthology under their respective banners, RSVP Movies and Flying Unicorn Entertainment. Lust Stories 2 marks their sixth anthology project together after Lust Stories, Ghost Stories, Paava Kadhaigal, Pitta Kathalu, and Ankahi Kahaniya over the past four years. Dua has previously also produced the critically-acclaimed anthology Bombay Talkies, which was screened at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, coinciding with the celebration of the 100th year of Indian cinema.
