Saif Ali Khan and Netflix India are teaming up once again. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that the Bollywood star has next signed a comedy drama film for the streaming giant, marking their second collaboration after Sacred Games, a mega neo-noir crime thriller series that kicked off Netflix’s operation in India six years ago. While the Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane show was a story of betrayal, glamour, and grit and saw Saif playing a troubled police officer chasing a ruthless gangster played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, their new project is said to be a quirky dramedy set in London.
"Saif Ali Khan is doing a film for Netflix, titled Mammy Papa Raazi. It’s an unconventional, fun family drama with a social message and will see Saif getting back to his Jawaani Jaaneman zone. Saket Chaudhary, who directed the late Irrfan Khan’s Hindi Medium, will helm this film while Akshai Puri is producing it under his banner, 12th Street Entertainment," an industry source told us. Northern Light Films and Tips are presenting this film. A light-hearted drama packed with comic elements, the film will go on floors in December and will mostly be shot in the UK.
Saket Choudhary is finally returning to feature film direction after multiple unsuccessful attempts over the last five years. The filmmaker was earlier working on a social drama for Sajid Nadiadwala’s banner, but that was shelved soon after the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world. He was also associated with Netflix’s in-development series on the Kandahar hijacking, but that project has now been turned over to some other filmmaker. The new film marks Saif’s first collaboration with Saket and his second with Akshai Puri after last year’s horror-comedy, Bhoot Police. Interestingly, Puri is also producing Saif’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s next murder mystery, adapted from Keigo Higashino’s acclaimed book, The Devotion of Suspect X. It's also a Netflix original, starring Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat and directed by Sujoy Ghosh of Kahaani and Badla fame.
Saif Ali Khan has a solid slate of films lined up ahead. He will next be seen in Pushkar & Gayatri’s Vikram Vedha, where he plays the role of a tough cop against Hrithik Roshan’s dreaded gangster Vedha. The film’s teaser was released just today and will hit cinemas worldwide on September 28. He will then be seen playing Ravana in the highly anticipated mythological epic, Adipurush. Om Raut’s retelling of the Ramayana sees Prabhas as Ram and Kriti Sanon as Sita, and is scheduled to be released in theatres on January 12, 2023!
