PeepingMoon Exclusive: Aamir Khan's film with RS Prasanna gets the final approval; to go into production in January 2023!

Aamir Khan’s film with Shubh Mangal Saavdhan director RS Prasanna was going through uncertainty post the release of Laal Singh Chaddha and its disastrous performance at the box office. Aamir was reportedly apprehensive about this sports-comedy-drama and had asked to pause pre-production work on the film for the time being. The superstar wanted to see how the Forrest Gump adaptation performs before taking his final call on the project he wants to dive into next. And now, we hear Aamir has made up his mind and is going ahead with the RS Prasanna film.

Peepingmoon.com has learned that Aamir Khan has locked in RS Prasanna’s Hindi adaptation of the Spanish film, Campeones, as his next film, and will start shooting for it in January 2023. The pre-production of the film has also resumed and the makers have chalked out a six-month schedule to shoot this Sony Pictures India production. "Everything has started moving at a brisk pace again. Aamir has given his dates from January onwards, and will decide on the other aspects of the project once he returns from the US. The casting, location scouting, and all other pre-production work are also going on in full swing. Furthermore, the makers have brought on board the musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy to score music for the film," a source close to the development told us, adding that the yet-untitled film marks Aamir’s third collaboration with the music composer after their successful previous stints with Dil Chahta Hai (2001) and Taare Zameen Par (2007).

A sports drama with an epic, inspirational human story at its core, this RS Prasanna directorial sees Aamir Khan playing the role of an arrogant, selfish, self-absorbed basketball coach who, as a part of his community service sentence, builds a Special Olympics team comprising intellectually-disabled players. The film follows the standard dramatic trajectory, as Aamir’s character learns to be a good person and figures out how the word "normal" is relative. RS Prasanna and the writers have adapted the 2018 Spanish film to Indian sensibilities and have written the screenplay based on the experiences of real mentally-disabled players. Campeones is a familiar, uplifting flick that proudly challenges what it means to be a champion, and Aamir Khan is making sure the remake is equally entertaining and heartwarming without losing the essence of the original.

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan’s Mogul with Bhushan Kumar has officially been put on the backburner. The Gulshan Kumar biopic is no longer happening, with all the involved parties shifting their gears to other projects. Aamir has reportedly backed out of the film while Subhash Kapoor, who was assigned to direct it, is now working on the third installment of his hit film franchise, Jolly vs. LLB. Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi will star in this new courtroom dramedy, set to go on floors in the first half of 2023.
