Jay Shewakramani, who is gearing up for the much-anticipated release of Kartik Aaryan and Alaya F's Freddy, spoke to PeepingMoon.com about the possible sequels of his films Jawaani Jaaneman and Malang. He produced the films under his banner Northern Lights Films.
Talking about the sequels, Jay told us exclusively, "Jawaani Jaaneman inherently doesn’t need a sequel. Saif (Ali Khan) is like a brother to me so I would love to make films with him. Even Malang is a definite film. Malang is Mohit Suri’s creation, don’t know whether he plans to take it ahead."
Malang, which released on February 7, 2020, was a commercial success. Just a few days after its release, the director confirmed the film's sequel. He told a leading daily, "Sequel to Malang is definitely on the cards but I cannot confirm at the moment." In June 2020, Mohit informed through social media that the first draft of Malang 2 was ready. However, there was no further update on the same.
It seems Malang 2 has been shelved and Jay's statement adds fuel to the speculation. Malang starred Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani, Anil Kapoor and Kunal Kemmu in lead roles.
Freddy, directed by Shashanka Ghosh and co-produced by Ekta Kapoor, will release on Disney+Hotstar on December 2.
