Abhishek Bachchan has lately been making all the right choices. In the second inning of his career, the junior Bachchan has appeared in a slew of exciting projects spanning multiple genres. With films like Manmarziyaan, Ludo, The Big Bull, Bob Biswas, and Dasvi, he has showcased his diverse talents as an actor, proving his versatility all along. Amazon Prime India’s Breathe: Into the Shadows is a testament to the fact that Abhishek is constantly experimenting with his choices and opting for projects that are different and challenging. Up next, he has signed a drama film that will show him in a new light yet again.
Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Abhishek Bachchan is next doing a comedy-drama for Nikkhil Advani’s banner, Emmay Entertainment. The film is said to be a remake of the critically acclaimed 2019 Tamil film, "K.D." Madhumita Sundararaman, who directed the original, has been brought on board to helm the remake as well. She has started the pre-production and will kick off shooting next month in Bhopal. "It’s a sweet slice-of-life story about the unusual bond an elderly man develops with a kid. Abhishek loved the feel-good treatment of the script and instantly came aboard. Madhumita has adapted the story to North Indian sensibilities but has retained the core theme to give it the same vibe as the original," a source close to the development told us, adding that the makers have planned a two-month schedule to finish this film and release it around mid-next year.
The yet-untitled film will see Abhishek Bachchan step into the shoes of Mu Ramaswamy to play the titular character of an elderly man who suddenly wakes up from a coma one fine day to overhear his family planning to kill him by performing an ancient euthanasia ritual. Heartbroken and afraid, he runs away from home on an aimless path, where he meets a smart, spunky eight-year-old orphan. How the kid helps him live his life to the fullest forms the crux of the story. The film marks Madhumita’s second Hindi project after her yet-to-release debut vehicle with Abundantia Entertainment, adapted from the Malayalam film, Angamaly Diaries. The crime drama starring Arjun Das is completed and eyeing a release in the first quarter of 2023.
K.D. remake aside, Abhishek Bachchan is also said to be in talks with Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films for their second collaboration post-Dasvi. However, the project is still in discussion, and we will update on that once things are finalized. For now, Abhishek has two films lined up for 2023 release: R Balki’s Ghoomer, in which he plays a cricket coach to Saiyami Kher, and the Hindi remake of a Tamil film, Oththa Seruppu Size 7, revolving around an emotionally unstable murder suspect.
