Rithvik Dhanjani is back to hosting a reality show. Titled Dating Culture, it is a weekly show which follows a unique concept of dating. It challenges the idea of dating. The show puts parents and children on one stage. Dating Culture allows parents to set their kids up for a date, on the basis of bios provided by other contestants of the show.
In an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon.com, Rithvik spoke about Dating Culture and what sets it apart from other reality shows of the same genre. He further opened up about having a crush in school and how his parents never had to step in to resolve love-life problems.
Excerpts from the interview:
What makes Dating Culture different from other love/relationship-based shows?
I think that the premise of dating is very different, especially in the love relationship-based shows, because dating is a phase in life when you are only getting to know the person, trying to understand whether you could even fall in love with that person and spend the rest of your life with that person. I think in times like today, this is very important because of the volatility of the generation that we are in. Also because of the number of options that are available, so it's very important for anyone to date someone and understands the person before completely investing their emotions into them. So I think that is how dating cultures are different from love-based reality shows, because those are specifically talking about love. But I feel that love comes much later in the stage. It happens eventually, unlike some cases which are a love at first sight. But in most scenarios today, people would want to know each other before they would want to fall in love.
Did you ever face any situation in your love life wherein your parents had to step in to resolve problems?
Luckily I have not had to ever face a situation where my parents have had to step into my love life to solve that equation. I am a total believer that any third person in a relationship to solve a problem, even if it is your parents, it is wrong at the core level of your relationship. The relationship should always and only be between two people.
Reality shows can be tricky when it comes to TRP and finding a loyal audience. Do you agree?
Be it reality shows, TV, films, web shows, or anything else is tricky when it comes to finding a loyal audience. So I think that you totally need to believe in the content that you are making and make it with all your heart. The moment you put your heart into something you know it's going to work because you have put your heart and soul into it. Hence I feel that instead of running behind numbers and TRPs you should put your heart into everything that you are creating and then you will automatically find people that resonate with you.
Does hosting give you more satisfaction than acting?
Acting is what satisfies my core. it is something I live for and it is always going to be my top priority and it always has been my top priority.
According to you, what’s the true definition of love and dating?
Being with someone who can make you a better version of yourself, being with someone who you feel you can be the most vulnerable, childlike self with, is what is love according to me. It has to empower you and make you feel like you want to fly every single day. It has to make the world around you so beautiful. and love does that to you. When you are with the right person life becomes beautiful and meaningful. Every spectrum of your life just seems to fall in place. the true definition of love for me is when you find that one person who can make you the best version of yourself. Also, the times from back then in comparison to now are very different when talking about love. the kind of love, the kind of butterflies in the stomach and the things we did as teenagers, like writing letters, waiting to see just a jhalak of that person is not there anymore. everything is now available on the internet. whereas earlier there was a certain intriguing mystery about the person that made you want to know more about them. the slow and steady way of getting to know the person now is not there anymore which I feel is missing in romance these days.
Did you have a crush in school/college?
I did have a crush on a girl at school, and not just me but the entire school had a crush on that girl! I remember how I used to do extra athletics classes after my school time because I knew that she was going to be a part of that athletics class. We had to run 5 rounds of our ground as part of that class, and I would do all of that so that I could see her.
If given a chance, would you like to participate in a show like Dating Culture?
I don't think I can be a part of a dating reality show because for me this is a very personal process.
Do you feel an actor’s love life is often messed up before marriage due to hectic work schedules?
I feel that priorities need to be set right, and no matter how busy you are and what kind of job you are doing, you will always need to find time for the person you love. I don't think a hectic work life can mess up a relationship and especially in these times with such advanced technology, you can see each other at literally anytime.
