Anupam Kher sat down for an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon’s Managing Editor Ankita Bhalla in her special segment ‘Meet The Screen Stealers Episode 4’. He spoke about giving a fabulous box office hit in The Kashmir Files and reuniting with Sooraj Barjatya and Rajshri Productions in Uunchai.
During the interview, Anupam spoke about why his most-acclaimed film of 2022 The Kashmir Files has courted non-stop controversies. He said, “1990s mein jo exodus shuru hua, Kashmiri Pandits ka genocide shuru hua uspar Vivek Agnihotri ne 700 logon ka interview karke world over Kashmiri Panditon ka, uska documentation karke film banayi and that has shocked people, horrified people. The Kashmir Files isliye itni chali hai, dekhiye ismein koi entertainment nahi hai, koi comedy scenes nahi hai, usmein koi gaane nahi hai jo aap gunguna sakte hain but people for the first time felt ‘Oh my god, this is what had happened,’ so out of guilt their heart went out to people who were depicted in the film.”
He further said, “Jab aap sach ke liye kuch kar rahe hain to uske liye ladna bhi padta hai, kabhi kabhi bolna padta hai ki aap ‘jhoothe hain makkar hain, galat hai’ jo main karta rehta hoon. Aur ab kya ho gaya ki jisko bhi 15 minute ka fame chahiye hota hai woh The Kashmir Files ke bare mein bolta hai and phat se use fame milta hai phir bechare thande ho jate hain.”
The Kashmir Files was directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumaar and Pallavi Joshi. The film became one of the top grossers of 2022 breaking all stereotypical speculations as well as box office records.
