PeepingMoon Exclusive: Ishaan Khatter-Mrunal Thakur's Pippa returns to editing table, theatrical release pushed to 2024?

Do you remember Ishaan Khatter announcing his upcoming big-scale war drama Pippa? Yes, the Raja Krishna Menon directorial whose teaser was widely appreciated when it premiered on August 15, 2022. The period war film produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur was originally scheduled to release in theatres globally on December 2, 2022, however, we're in February 2023 now still waiting for an official update on its theatrical release.

While it is clear that Pippa has been postponed indefinitely, the makers are yet to issue a clarification behind the reason for the delay. As we await a word from the team, PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learnt from sources that the Balram Singh Mehta biopic will not be releasing any time soon. Positively, a theatrical release is only being planned as the film is made for the big screen. However, sources say that Pippa will be hitting the silver screen only in 2024.

Built on a large scale, sources informed PeepingMoon that Pippa has returned to the editing table as the final product failed to match the criteria required to get a go-ahead from the producers. Considering it is an 85-crore project, the makers are reworking on it to make it appealing to a wider audience.

Based on Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta, who was instrumental in the victory in the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971, Pippa is adapted from the book titled The Burning Chaffees which was written by Brigadier Mehta. He had participated in the tank battle during the Battle of Garibpur (1971) in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). The film takes its title from the Russian amphibious war tank called the PT-76, popularly known as 'Pippa'.

Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, Pippa is produced by RSVP and Roy Kapur Films. The film also stars Mrunal Thakur, Priyanshu Painyuli and Soni Razdan.
