Shubh Mangal Saavdhan director R.S. Prasanna’s remake of the Spanish film Campeones is not finding its leading star. Aamir Khan was initially supposed to star in this film, but he backed out of it last year after the disastrous failure of Laal Singh Chaddha. The superstar is now on a break from acting and is involved with Prasanna’s film only as a producer. Having been involved since its scripting stage, Aamir knows the film’s potential and has been trying to bring the film to fruition. He had recently offered this film to his friend Salman Khan as well, but we hear the talks haven’t materialized.
"Aamir had offered RS Prasanna’s film to Salman sometime back as he believes Salman fits the bill and can pull off this character very well on screen. Salman had also shown his interest back then, and things were moving forward positively. However, Salman recently watched the original Spanish film and suggested some changes in the Hindi adaptation. Aamir and the director are not happy with the changes he has asked for, while Salman also doesn't seem particularly optimistic about the film," an industry source informed us, adding that Salman hasn’t formally turned down the offer yet, but it’s pretty obvious that he doesn’t want to do this film.
Sources indicate that RS Prasanna’s film hasn’t moved anywhere since Aamir backed out of his acting responsibilities, and it’s possible that the film might end up getting shelved after sometime. If that happens, it would be the third Aamir Khan film to get scrapped after his last-minute exit in recent years. Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Saare Jahan Se Accha and T-Series Gulshan Kumar biopic, Mogul, are the other two projects that remain stalled to date after Aamir left the project for various reasons.
Aamir’s break from acting, however, hasn’t kept him completely away from movies. The Dangal star is nowadays focusing on his production company, Aamir Khan Productions, which has three diverse projects lined up ahead. The upcoming slate includes Aamir’s ex-wife Kiran Rao’s second directorial, Laapataa Ladies’ starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan; Sunil Pandey’s small-town quirky drama, Pritam Pyare, starring Sanjay Mishra and Neeraj Sood; and the Hindi remake of Malayalam film Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey which stars Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead and will soon go on floors.
Salman Khan, meanwhile, hasn’t locked in his next project for 2024. The superstar has been toying with multiple scripts, including Kick 2, Dabangg 4, a Pan-India film, and a remake film, but he hasn’t finalized any of them yet. He is expected to choose and announce one after the release of his Eid offering, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
