Shahid Kapoor seems to have changed his priorities again. The Bollywood star, who is currently shooting for Maddock Films' yet-untitled robot rom-com with Kriti Sanon, was supposed to head to Anees Bazmee's action comedy shortly after wrapping that up. However, things seem to have changed over the past few months as Shahid is gearing up to shoot an investigative thriller drama before shifting his attention to Bazmee's double-role entertainer.
Peepingmoon.com has learned that Shahid Kapoor will next start Siddharth Roy Kapur's remake of the Malayalam neo-noir psychological thriller Mumbai Police. The film stars Shahid in the role of a cop and will be helmed by Rosshan Andrrews, who also directed the 2013 original. "Shahid has been committed to this film since last year, but it was postponed due to his priorities for other projects. However, talks about that film have progressed quite rapidly in the past few weeks. Shahid, Rosshan, and Siddharth Roy Kapur have met and discussed all the modalities and have agreed to take it into production by April-end or early May 2023," a source close to the development told us.
Shahid Kapoor is said to be playing an investigating police officer suffering from partial memory loss in this yet-untitled thriller. He steps into the shoes of Prithviraj Sukumaran to play a carefree, brash young officer who needs to retrace his past in order to unravel the mystery behind a crime he had been probing before losing his memory. Besides Shahid, the film also has two more lead characters, who were played by Rahman and Jayasurya in the original. The makers are also in talks with a popular South Indian actress to play the leading lady, but she is yet to give her nod.
Shahid is currently shooting for Dinesh Vijan's film, which now has only around 15 days of work left, including a foreign schedule. Soon after finishing this film, he will switch gears to the Mumbai Police remake for the next two months. Only after finishing the latter will he head to Anees Bazmee's comedy-drama around July 2023. These three projects aside, Shahid also has Ali Abbas Zafar's Bloody Daddy slated for release this year. The film is a remake of the French thriller Sleepless Night and is expected to release directly on a streaming platform.
