Bhumi Pednekar has proved her acting mettle right from her debut film, Dum Laga Ke Haisha. She followed it up with several other impeccable performances but many people see her in the stereotypical ‘plain Jane’ mould. In fact, Bhumi is often cast as the wife of the hero and not the glamorous girlfriend in films. However, she intends to break all of that. In an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon.com, Bhumi spoke about how her looks undermined her acting prowess and even her near and dear ones questioned her potential as a glamorous actress after her first film.
Talking about how her near and dear ones undermined her potential to be an actress because of her looks, Bhumi said, “I feel you’re most often put into these certain brackets of boundaries. So, people did not expect me to come this far after my first film, and I was told this by people who are close to me. So, I was like ‘you know what I’m gonna change all of this’, because who are you tell me what I can do or not do. Nobody can decide what I am capable of doing, what my value is, how I should dress, how I should not dress, so please nobody can decide that. So I was very clear that I need to make a place for myself so that there are other girls who are told ‘oh you can’t do it’ they can say ‘if she can do it, so can we’.”
Meanwhile on the work front, Bhumi is looking forward to the release of her film Bheed which also stars Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Kapur, Ashutosh Rana, Dia Mirza, Virendra Saxena, Aditya Shrivastav, Kritika Kamra, and Karan Pandit.
Bheed is directed by Anubhav Sinha and produced by him under his production banner Benaras Mediaworks. It is slated to release in cinemas on the March 24, 2023.
