Kunal Kemmu, who is currently promoting his recently-released ZEE5 film Kanjoos Makhichoos, sat down for an exclusive conversation with PeepingMoon's Senior Entertainment Correspondent Rashita Sahni. When asked about RRR's and The Elephant Whisperers' big Oscar win and Indian cinema receiving global recognition, Kunal said 'we don't need anybody on the outside to tell us how good or bad we are'.
Kunal said, "I don’t think we need anybody else from outside to tell us how good or bad we are. I mean it’s great to be on the platform and receive that but that should not mean that we are finally getting a due. We still are a country that has more manpower than any of those countries. We make more films, we just don’t have the number because I don’t know the number but I guess 4% of the country goes to the theatres. The day it goes up to even 10%, I think Hollywood will be trying to please us."
The actor further said that we have been sending the wrong films to Orcars. "We are sending the wrong films to them because their understanding of India is not right. Like they gave Slumdog Millionaire an Oscar because their understanding of India is that. But Salaam Bombay is the India that we live in but this is changing," the actor added.
