PeepingMoon Exclusive: Rakesh Roshan teams up with Siddharth Anand and Karan Malhotra for Hrithik Roshan's Krrish 4

A differently-abled Rohit Mehra, played by Hrithik Roshan, becomes friends with a blue-eyed alien named Jadoo in Rakesh Roshan's 2003 sci-fi drama Koi…Mil Gaya. The extraterrestrial friend bestows Rohit with a superpower while leaving Earth at the end of the film. Three years later, Rohit Mehra's son Krishna (also played by Hrithik) is born with the same superhuman ability that he utilizes to help people, eventually becoming India's first superhero, Krrish, in 2006. Seven years later, Rakesh Roshan made Krrish 3, further establishing the superhero franchise as one of the most popular movie series.

In September 2016, they announced Krrish 4, with a release planned for Christmas 2018. It has been seven years since the announcement, and the fourth installment of Krrish still hasn't taken off. Both Rakesh Roshan and Hrithik Roshan have often confirmed the film being in development, but there hasn't been a fixed production timeline due to the protracted scripting process. However, things finally seem to be moving forward, as we hear Rakesh Roshan has finalized the director for Krrish 4.

Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Rakesh Roshan has roped in Agneepath director Karan Malhotra to helm the fourth installment of the Krrish franchise. Roshan, who has directed all three previous Krrish movies, will only supervise this time and has handed over the directorial reins to Malhotra, who has previously made films like Agneepath, Brothers, and Shamshera. "The father-son duo Rakesh and Hrithik Roshan believe that Karan will breathe a new life into the Krrish franchise and have immense faith in his ability to deliver a world-class product. Rakesh Ji has locked in the basic plot to take the story forward and is currently working on the screenplay with a team of writers. Karan Malhotra will soon join the team and jointly work with Rakesh ji to bring out a visual spectacle to the audience," an industry source told us, adding that Hrithik and Karan are finally collaborating again after their numerous unsuccessful attempts on ambitious projects like Shuddhi and The Immortals of Meluha.

The sources have further revealed that Hrithik's friend and filmmaker Siddharth Anand has also joined the Krrish universe. The Pathaan director has come on board to produce Krrish 4 along with Hrithik's home banner, Filmkraft Productions, continuing their professional partnership after Bang Bang, War, and the forthcoming Fighter, which releases in cinemas on January 25, 2024. Although the film is still in the writing stage, the makers are eyeing to start pre-production in the first quarter of next year and take it to floors around the third quarter of 2024. Hrithik will start shooting for this film after finishing Yash Raj Films' War 2, which begins production in November this year.

Krrish 4 is expected to set a new benchmark for superhero movies globally with a concept that has barely been attempted in international cinema. Rakesh Roshan and his team have been brainstorming a variety of crazy ideas for a fitting follow-up, and while the plot details have strictly been guarded, there is buzz that it will see Krrish travelling in time to bring back his scientist father and his trusted blue-eyed alien friend. The new installment will take place in a totally different setting and feature India's favourite desi superhero battling a horde of super villains to once again tell a mystical narrative about good and evil.
