After the release of Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan was supposed to shoot for RS Prasanna's Campeones remake last year. The Forrest Gump adaptation's disastrous box office performance, however, forced the 3 Idiots actor to alter his plans. To everyone's surprise, Aamir announced a year-long break from acting last November in order to spend more time with his family. He also distanced himself from acting in RS Prasanna's film and announced that he would instead only produce it with Sony Pictures India, distancing himself from his earlier commitment to act in it. Nearly six months later, Aamir seems to have begun searching for his next project down south.
The buzz in the industry is that Aamir Khan has been frequently travelling to Hyderabad to discuss his next project. The Dangal star visited Hyderabad just last week for the second time in three months, igniting speculation that something is in the works down south. While Aamir's team is tight-lipped about his recent trips to Hyderabad, sources close to the actor indicate that he has been going there for a possible collaboration. "Aamir Khan is discussing a project with producer Allu Aravind of Geetha Arts, and they met last week again for the same. They have discussed several project ideas and are eager to work together. But at this point, it is just a mere conversation, with no concrete development so far," the source informed us.
Aamir and Allu Aravind have discussed several projects, and one of them is believed to be Ghajini 2. The producer has a basic idea for the sequel and is keen to make it with Aamir, who brilliantly played Sanjay Singhania, an eminent businessman suffering from anterograde amnesia, in the 2008 revenge drama. Both are discussing a number of ideas to take Singhania's story forward, and they are expected to zero in on one in the next couple of months. "Aamir and Allu Aravind have met on numerous occasions during the last 4-5 months. However, everything has been kept so secretive that nobody is aware of what is actually cooking. Ghajini 2 is definitely one of the projects under consideration, but it's not yet certain what the other projects are. When things fall into place, we might learn about some developments, but for the time being, it's all been kept under wraps', the source further added.
Aamir has reportedly been offered dozens of projects from across the film industry. Apart from Allu Aravind, he is also said to be in talks with Sneha Rajani for a strong content drama. He has also been offered Prashanth Neel's Pan-India film with Jr. NTR, but all of these projects are still in the "talks" stage at this moment. The superstar is also looking for projects for his production banner, Aamir Khan Films, and is said to have locked in one starring Fatima Sana Shaikh— in addition to the already finished small-budget films directed by Kiran Rao and Sunil Pandey. Rao's film, Laapataa Ladies, stars Sparsh Srivastava, Pratibha Ranta, and Nitanshi Goel in the lead, while Pandey's Pritam Pyare is a quirky small-town story about two brothers, played by Sanjay Mishra and Neeraj Sood. Both films are currently in post-production and will be released in cinemas sometime this year.
