Excerpts from the interview:
How do you react to the response to Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan?
I'm glad people are watching it in theatres but I don't take credit for any of the appreciation. Salman Khan has established a strong fanbase and it is his hard work.
What was your reaction to watching yourself on the big screen?
Strangely, I had no reaction when I saw myself on the big screen. It felt as if I have been doing this for many years. My brother Reyansh really enjoyed it. Throughout the film, he was happily pointing out saying, "My sister is on screen". More than feeling happy for myself, I was delighted to see his reaction.
Is your mother Shweta Tiwari your harshest critic or biggest supporter?
She is both. When I was shooting and could do something to improve, she was my biggest critic. After the shoot, she became my biggest supporter. It is the right balance to strike.
Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan was your first film. Did you watch yourself objectively or subjectively?
I can say I am extremely objective. I know how to separate my emotions from my work and that’s the best way to make sure I can give my best. Acting is my dream job and I always wanted to do this. I cannot be high on emotions always.
How often did you read reviews and checked people's opinions about your work?
I honestly don’t read reviews. I went to Gaiety Galaxy on the second day of Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan's review. I saw how people reacted to the film and no review can do justice to that. For us, it is important to keep the audience happy.
Was Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan the first film offered to you?
No, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan was the second film I shot. My first film will release soon.
Does the screen space and length of a character matter to you?
It depends on the film. In this (Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi KI Jaan) case, you need to sense what a movie requires. No actor is bigger than a movie. In this case, I needed to be a part of the ensemble and a member of the family. The best way I could contribute was not by doing things in my own way and by being there for the script. I believe if an actor has to make an impact, it can be in 2 seconds but I believe screen space does matter.
How did you manage to develop a thick skin to be a part of the industry?
It isn't easy for a newcomer. You have to accept criticism. People come out with such new creative criticism that you are left surprised. It takes some time to adjust to that and I took about 5-6 months to get used to it.
