Siddharth Anand and Saif Ali Khan go back a long way together. The filmmaker, considered one of the biggest action directors in Bollywood today, kicked off his directorial journey with Saif’s 2005 rom-com, Salaam Namaste. They both worked together again soon after in Yash Raj Films’ Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007), a comic sports drama centered around a promising car racer whose career takes a tragic turn due to an accident. Two films later, they amicably parted ways, and Saif Ali Khan went on to work with filmmakers like Abbas-Mustan (Race), Vijay Krishna Acharya (Tashan), and Imtiaz Ali (Love Aaj Kal), while Sid directed two more rom-coms with Ranbir Kapoor (Bachna Ae Haseeno and Anjaana Anjaani) before switching his gears to action movies with Bang Bang (2014). Both the actor and director have established themselves with remarkable filmographies since then.
Now, Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Siddharth Anand and Saif Ali Khan are set to work together again after 16 years of hiatus. The two are teaming up for an action thriller film planned for streaming giant Netflix. Siddharth, however, will only produce this film under his banner, Marflix Productions, while one of his ADs will take on the directorial duties. The yet-untitled project is said to be a massive-scale actioner that will eventually be developed into a major franchise. Although the plot and further details of the film are currently under tight wraps, sources claim that it revolves around a rescue operation spearheaded by Saif's character. The film is expected to go into production in the third quarter of this year.
The Siddharth Anand film marks Saif Ali Khan’s second collaboration with Netflix, following the unprecedented success of the streamer’s breakthrough series, Sacred Games (2018). Like the Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane-directed web series, this new Netflix film also sees Saif plunging into uncharted territory, and he is very excited to explore that space. He will start shooting for this project after finishing Jr. NTR’s pan-India action spectacle, Devara.
On the work front, Saif Ali Khan is currently awaiting the release of Om Raut’s Ramayana-based movie, Adipurush, which hits cinemas on June 16. He will then be seen in Red Chillies Entertainment’s investigative drama, Kartavya, directed by Bose: Dead or Alive fame Pulkit. Saif is also reviving his production company, Black Knight Films, and has signed National Award-winning filmmaker Vinod Kapri to make a jungle-based survival drama for him. He is also in talks for a thriller film with a filmmaker known for directing a popular neo-noir erotic thriller, but the discussion is still in the initial stages at this moment.
