PeepingMoon Exclusive: Disney+ Hotstar to adapt German series Bad Cop, starring Gulshan Devaiah, Harleen Sethi and Anurag Kashyap

Over the past five years, Disney+Hotstar has adapted nearly a dozen international web shows for Indian audiences, such as Criminal Justice, Penoza, Luther, The Night Manager, and The Good Wife, to name a few. The streaming giant’s last-week release, Raveena Tandon-starrer The Karmma Calling, was also an adaptation of the American drama series Revenge. They have already announced several more foreign shows' adaptations, and the roster is only expanding day by day.

Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Disney+Hotstar is now adapting the German television series "Bad Cop: Kriminell Gut." The Indian adaptation will star Gulshan Devaiah in the lead role, portraying the character originally played by David Rott in the 2017 thriller show. Joining him in pivotal roles are the exciting ensemble of Harleen Sethi, Anurag Kashyap, Saurabh Sachdeva, and Sushmita Aishwarya.

Aditya Datt, who has previously directed Table No. 21 and Commando 3, is helming this series, and he has already commenced filming, even while he awaits the release of his Vidyut Jammwal-starrer sports actioner, Crakk-Jeethegaa Toh Jiyegaa, on February 23. Rensil D’Silva and Hussain Dalal have adapted the German series for Indian sensibilities, setting the plot in the underbelly of Mumbai. Fremantle India, the company behind hit reality shows like India's Got Talent and Indian Idol, is producing this project, expected to premiere in the second half of 2024.

"Bad Cop: Kriminell Gut" follows twin brothers—Jesko, a successful police inspector, and Jan, a life-trained criminal. Their worlds collide when Jesko’s life hangs in the balance during a police operation involving Jan, forcing a drastic twist of fate as Jan assumes his deceased brother’s identity for self-preservation.

The show will see Gulshan playing a double role once again, following his remarkable performance as twin brothers in Vasan Bala’s critically acclaimed Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota. The Dahaad actor has four more projects lined up, which include Janhvi Kapoor starrer Ulajh, Kaushal Ojha’s family dramedy, Little Thomas, Jhansi Ka Rajkumar with Namita Dubey, and the second season of Raj & DK’s Netflix series, Guns & Gulaabs.
