PeepingMoon Exclusive: What's happening with Dhanush and Aanand L. Rai's Tere Ishk Mein?

In June 2023, Aanand L. Rai and Dhanush announced Tere Ishk Mein, marking their third collaboration after the success of Raanjhanaa and Atrangi Re. It's been around 11 months since the announcement, but there has been no development regarding the project, leading to a number of rumours over its whereabouts. Peepingmoon checked about the status and found out that the film is very much on, but has slightly been delayed on the production front.

Dhanush’s commitments to his Tamil movies have apparently led to the postponement of Tere Ishk Mein, according to sources familiar with the development. “Dhanush has several prior commitments down south that he wants to complete before devoting two months to Aanand L. Rai's film. The director acknowledged his concern and has agreed to wait for him. They're now eyeing to start the film around October–November 2024,” a source said, adding that the film will be shot in a two-month, one-go schedule in Varanasi and other locations in Uttar Pradesh, targeting a theatrical release in mid-2025.

Described as a tragic love story, Tere Ishk Mein reportedly belongs to a similar world as Raanjhanaa and promises to touch the core of your heart with romance and varied emotions. Dhanush will play an angry young man named Shekhar in this film, while the heroine opposite him is expected to be locked by July. Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav have written the script, while A.R. Rahman is on board for music.

Dhanush is currently awaiting the release of his 50th film, Raayan, which also marks his second directorial project after 2017’s Pa Pandi. The gangster drama, also starring Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Nithya Menon, and SJ Suryah, was initially supposed to release on June 13 but has now apparently been postponed to July 26. Dhanush will then be seen in Sekhar Kammula’s Kubera, a social drama set in Mumbai's Dharabi slums, which also features Nagarjuna Akkineni and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles. On the work front, Dhanush is next supposed to shoot for Karnan director Mari Selvaraj’s next film, followed by the biopic of music maestro Ilaiyaraaja. His third directorial film is also in the works.
