PeepingMoon Exclusive: Are Munjya and Stree interlinked? Director Aditya Sarpotdar reveals, 'cross-connections are a plan'

Is 'Stree' Shraddha Kapoor the Munni in Munjya's epic love story? This is the question that's topped the trends on social media for the longest time. Munjya, the new addition to Dinesh Vijan's horror-comedy universe, is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and stars Abhay Verma, Sharvari and Mona Singh in the lead. Does the film actually have a connection with Stree? Well, let the director spill the beans.

In an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon, Aditya revealed whether Munjya and Stree are interconnected. He said, "I do feel that these crossovers and collaborations are very exciting. As an audience, I get always excited. You would want to see more such films. Stree was one of those films that Amar (Kaushik) made and caught the whole nation by surprise and it did so well."

Aditya added, "It is quintessential that people are going to ask and relate every other horror comedy like Munjya to Stree. When Munja started, the idea was never to look for a sequel or a prequel to Stree because then Munjya doesn't be Munjya, it would become a version of Stree. I stepped to make a film on Munjya. Now, does it connect to the universe or not is something you'll have to find in the film. The intention is to make a good film, which standalone also delivers the kind of entertainment and the promise that the trailer delivers, and if that works, then you at least have had your money's worth.

He concluded stating, "I personally believe there's no point in trying to make connections with films if the films are not working. We believe that, let's make Munjya as a film work the most. So the way Stree worked and people kind of wanted more versions of it, we are hoping Munjya works and people would want more versions of it. Connections and cross-connections are a plan but you will know when you see the film."

Munjya is produced by Maddock Films and is currently running in theatres.
