EXCLUSIVE: Rohit Dhawan Moves On from Rambo Remake; Teams Up with Sajid Nadiadwala for New Action Comedy

Siddharth Anand and Rohit Dhawan’s Rambo remake was recently put on hold after seven years of failed attempts to get it off the ground. Although Siddharth remains interested in reviving the project and is now repackaging it, we hear Rohit Dhawan has distanced himself from it. The Desi Boyz director is moving on after devoting four years of his life to the Rambo adaptation — a high-profile, ambitious action project that unfortunately never moved beyond the pre-production stage despite seven years of development. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Dhawan is now working on a new project for Sajid Nadiadwala's banner. Dhawan goes back to Nadiadwala after previously collaborating with him on the John Abraham and Varun Dhawan starrer Dishoom in 2016.

Dhawan's latest project is a two-hero action comedy, although it's not Dishoom 2, as the sequel to that film is already in development at Anand Motion Pictures with a different cast and director. This new film is believed to be more along the lines of Govinda and Anil Kapoor's popular 1997 comedy, Deewana Mastana. The project is currently in the writing stage, with production being planned for next year. The cast will be finalized once the script is ready.

This untitled action comedy adds to the exciting roster at Sajid Nadiadwala's production company, which recently released Kartik Aaryan and Kabir Khan's Chandu Champion in theatres to rave reviews. The banner currently has four movies in various stages of production, including Salman Khan and AR Murugadoss' Sikandar, which began filming just a few days ago. Other upcoming productions include Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh’s Housefull 5, Ahan Shetty and Pooja Hegde’s Sanki, and Vishal Bhardwaj's Arjun Ustara, which is expected to star Kartik Aaryan in the lead.
