EXCLUSIVE: Ayushmann Khurrana and Ahan Shetty’s films postponed from the Valentine’s Day 2025 weekend

Two Hindi films have deferred their theatrical arrival from the Valentine's Day 2025 weekend. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Ayushmann Khurrana's Vampires of Vijay Nagar and Ahan Shetty's Sanki will no longer release on the February 14 weekend next year due to production delays.

Ayushmann's film, which marks his entry into Dinesh Vijan's horror-comedy universe, has undergone several changes since its announcement last year, causing delays in the production schedule. Rashmika Mandanna will now star opposite Ayushmann in this film, replacing Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who withdrew due to health issues. Aditya Sarpotdar, who recently directed the surprise blockbuster Munjya, will helm this movie, which marks the 8th film in the Maddock Supernatural Universe after Stree, Roohi, Bhediya, Munjya, and the forthcoming Stree 2, set to release next month in theatres.

Vampires of Vijay Nagar will now get off the ground in November this year, making a February 2025 release unfeasible. The makers are apparently now targeting the last quarter of 2025 for its release, with an official announcement expected after Stree 2 hits cinemas. Ayushmann is expected to finish shooting for Dharma Productions’ spy comedy and Border 2 before taking on the role of a vampire in this Maddock Films production.

Sajid Nadiadwala's tentpole production Sanki, starring Ahan Shetty and Pooja Hegde, has also vacated the Valentine's Day weekend slot. The action entertainer was scheduled to kick off production on June 6 with an action-packed sequence in Mumbai, but the shooting was abruptly cancelled weeks in advance. Reasons are unknown yet, but sources suggest an incomplete script caused the last-minute postponement.

The makers are now waiting for the monsoon to end to finalize the new shooting timelines and will most likely take it on floors in September–October 2024. The film won't make it to the February 2025 release date since it's improbable that such a massive production would be ready for release in a four- to five-month window. Directed by debutant duo Adnan A. Shaikh and Yasir Jah, Sanki marks Ahan’s second film after his disappointing Bollywood debut with Tadap.

The postponement of these two projects lightens the competition for the Valentine's Day 2025 weekend. Releasing on that weekend will now be Aanand L. Rai's production, Nakhrewalli, and the much-awaited Hollywood superhero flick, Captain America: Brave New World. Nakhrewalli, starring newcomers Ansh Duggal and Pragati Srivastava and directed by Rahul Shanklya, is the screen adaptation of Satya Vyas’ best-selling novel, Dilli Darbaar, while the latter is the 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and fourth in the Captain America film series.
