Exclusive: Bad Newz director Anand Tiwari reveals Vicky Kaushal’s reaction to narration, “He was jumping off the seat”

Bad Newz is all set to hit theaters featuring Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Ammy Virk. A medical phenomenon Heteropaternal Superfecundation is discussed with a comic touch in Anand Tiwari’s directorial. The rare comedy-drama marks the second collaboration of the director and Vicky Kaushal. In an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon, Anand Tiwari revealed how the actor reacted when the movie was offered to him.

Anand Tiwari and Vicky Kaushal first worked on the Netflix film Love per Square Foot which also starred the director’s wife Angira Dhar. Having worked earlier and being a good friend, Maja Ma director had trust in him. He narrated the story to Vicky yet gave him room to reject the film if he didn’t like it. However, things fell in makers favour as Vicky liked the story and he was excited about it.

Talking to PeepingMoon, director Anand Tiwari said, “In Love Per Square Foot, we tested a lot of actors and Vicky was the best among them for that particular part. But in Bad Newz, because of all one love trust that one has with him. The kind of growth I've seen in him as an actor, the kind of growth he has proved to the market as a star, it all helped. For me to take this project to him was easier. I was only worried about what if he's not in this space right now because Vicky was doing a very different kind of content. He was doing Sam Bahadur, Chavva, he has just done Dunki so is he looking at this kind of space at all was my worry.”

Anand went on to add, “When he came for the narration, he was very excited. He said, ‘I still remember the first time you narrated Love Per Square Foot to me and here to narrate your second film to me. So I told him ‘Vicky tu Lihaz ke liye haa mat bolna tujhe nahi accha lage toh mana kar dena.’ And when I was narrating to him I still remember Amrit, Tarun, Somen and I were there and Vicky was jumping off the seat, laughing, giving high five. I was very worried with the way he was reacting, what if he now says, no, meri kya ijjat reh jayegi. But luckily for me, Vicky said yes and the project became what it is today.”

Presented by Amazon Prime in association with Dharma Productions and Leo Media Collective, a Leo Media Collective production, Bad Newz is all set to release on the silver screens this Friday – July 19th!
