Dharma Productions is calling for a reunion. Six years after launching them in Bollywood with Shashank Khaitan's Dhadak, the Karan Johar production banner is bringing Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter together again on screen. 

Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Janhvi and Ishaan will headline Dharma Productions’ next drama movie, directed by the National Award-winning filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan. Television actor Vishal Jethwa, renowned for his antagonist role in Rani Mukherji’s Mardaani 2, will also play a prominent role in what is being described as an emotional human drama. The film is currently in pre-production and will go on floors in October 2024 in Bhopal. 

“It's a well-written, ensemble-cast drama that Neeraj Ghaywan has been working on for the past two years. Both Janhvi and Ishaan have enormous admiration for the director's work and quickly came aboard the film as it offers them roles that are a complete departure from what they played in Dhadak. They had been itching to collaborate once more since their first movie and are thrilled to have found the perfect reunion recipe in Neeraj’s film,” a source close to the development told us. 

The Janhvi-Ishan project marks Neeraj’s second feature directorial, nine years after he directed Vicky Kaushal in his critically acclaimed debut film, Masaan. The director has since then been working primarily on OTT projects, directing Sacred Games Season 2, two episodes in Made in Heaven Season 2, and one of the highly praised segments in Dharma Productions' anthology, Ajeeb Daastaans. Neeraj is finally teaming up with Karan Johar on a feature film after their previous attempt to collaborate on Arunima Sinha’s biopic with Alia Bhatt fizzled out in 2019. 

This new yet-untitled film continues Janhvi's association with Dharma Productions, marking their sixth project together following Dhadak, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Mr. and Mrs. Mahi, and the forthcoming Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari with Varun Dhawan. As for Ishaan, it's only his second film with the banner, while Vishal Jethwa makes a stunning transition to Dharma Productions after his stint with Yash Raj Films on Mardaani 2 and Tiger 3. 

Talking about the upcoming lineup, Janhvi will soon be seen in Junglee Pictures' gripping thriller Ulajh, scheduled to release in theatres on August 2. In this Sudhanshu Saria directorial, she plays a young diplomat, belonging to a prominent family of patriots, who gets embroiled in a dangerous personal conspiracy while far from her home turf. She also has Jr. NTR’s Pan-India action entertainer, Devara Part 1, gearing up for September 27 release. Ishaan, meanwhile, has two Netflix shows lined up ahead: an international series, The Perfect Couple, alongside Nicole Kidman and Dakota Fanning; and a romantic drama series, titled Royals, with Bhumi Pednekar.
