EXCLUSIVE: Aditya Roy Kapur, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Wamiqa Gabbi to headline Raj & DK’s Netflix series, Rakht Brahmand

Excitement in the Indian OTT sphere is soaring as Raj and DK, the hotshot creators behind most-loved web shows like The Family Man and Farzi, have locked yet another massive project to their roster. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that the director duo has enlisted an impressive ensemble cast — Aditya Roy Kapur, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Wamiqa Gabbi — for their next Netflix series.

The details of the project have been shrouded in secrecy at this moment, but we heard it's a period fantasy series, tentatively titled as “Rakht Brahmand." Raj and DK, however, are not directing this show, as is being speculated in the media. They will simply serve as showrunners and producers (via their D2R Films), with the directorial duties assigned to Rahi Anil Barve, popularly known for directing Sohum Shah’s highly acclaimed mythological horror film, Tumbbad (2018). The show's pre-production has been going on for the past six months and is scheduled to get off the ground in August 2024, targeting a global Netflix premiere in late 2025.

“Rahi has created a mysterious, fantastical world that has never been explored in Indian cinema before. Aditya, Samantha, and Wamiqa were immediately taken aback by the concept and visualization and are excited to venture into entirely uncharted professional territory with this show. It’s a passion project that Rahi has been developing since before Tumbbad came out. He had initially planned it as a feature film but adapted it into a web series due to extensive material that couldn’t fit into the movie format. Expect an incredible, exhilarating ride that will transport you into a world full of deceit and double-crossing, love and sacrifice, and destiny," a source close to the development told us, adding that it’s double in scale than his forthcoming Amazon Prime series, Gulkanda Tales, also created and produced by Raj & DK.

Rakht Brahmand marks Aditya Roy Kapur's second web series, following his successful debut in the OTT space with last year's Disney+Hotstar series, The Night Manager. The show also marks Samantha’s third consecutive project with Raj & DK after The Family Man 2 and the upcoming Citadel: Honey Bunny, while it's the fifth web series for Wamiqa after her stellar performances in Grahan (Disney+Hotstar), Mai (Netflix), Jubilee (Amazon Prime), and Charlie Chopra & the Mystery of Solang Valley (SonyLIV).

Raj and DK continue their partnership with Netflix on this project, embarking on another journey together following the success of Guns & Gulaabs. The director duo has finished post-production for Varun Dhawan and Samantha’s Citadel: Honey Bunny and is currently shooting for the third season of Manoj Bajpayee’s The Family Man for Amazon Prime Video. They also have Gulkanda Tales in the pipeline, directed by Rahi Anil Barve and starring Pankaj Tripathi, Kunal Kemmu, and Patralekha in the lead roles.
