Exclusive: Bad Newz director Anand Tiwari admits comedy genre is challenging

Director Anand Tiwari is enjoying praises for his latest directorial Bad Newz starring Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Ammy Virk. In an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon Tiwari spoke about directing comedy dramas and if he ever faced creative differences. His latest offering Bad Newz is a comedy-drama and the director claimed that he finds this genre difficult on screen however it is easy for him when he is on stage.

Anand Tiwari has worked on different genres as an actor and director, so when asked if the comedy genre is challenging, he said, “Definitely! Different people will have different answers to it. Comedy is slightly easier for me when it comes to stage because, with a live audience, I can manipulate if a joke doesn’t land and make the other joke land. In Cinema, I have to pre-decide where the punch of the joke is at an edit or when I'm shooting, or when I'm writing. I have to imagine the audience might find this funny.”

He explained with a reference to his latest movie, “So for example, when you saw the trailer and if you found it funny, I was very relieved that okay, all the jokes that I wanted to land a certain way have landed. The fingers are crossed that the film which is largely a funny comedy film, all the jokes that we saw and the way we have reacted to them, hopefully when the audience see it, find it funny.”

Anand Tiwari has not only directed movies but also worked as an actor and producer.  On being asked, being an all-rounder if he ever faced creative differences he confirmed saying yes. He said, “I face creative differences at all times with everyone, whether it is actors or it is my partner Amritpal Bindra, whether it is my writer and the creative differences is what gets the best idea of it. So I feel my idea is not the best idea. Your idea, maybe the better idea, but let's make the best idea possible by debating. So because it comes from theater that's how we decide. That's how I keep my environment around me when I'm making films.”
