EXCLUSIVE: Anurag Kashyap collaborates with Amazon Prime India for a thriller movie; Details Inside!

Anurag Kashyap is back to work with renewed vigour. Even before finishing his upcoming film with Bobby Deol, the filmmaker has quietly started shooting for another project. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that the Gangs of Wasseypur director is now teaming up with Amazon Prime Video on a thriller movie starring Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's grandson, Aaishvary Thackeray, in his debut leading role.

Thackeray will star alongside Vineet Kumar Singh (Mukkabaaz), Mohammed Zeeshan Ayuub (Article 15), and Kumud Mishra (Ram Singh Charlie) in this yet-untitled project. Plot details are being kept close to the vest, but sources describe the film as an edge-of-the-seat thriller. Ajay Rai and Alan McAlex are producing it under Jar Pictures, which is popularly known for making critically praised independent films such as Liar's Dice, Nil Battey Sannata, Gurgaon, Bamfaad, Moothon, Chocked, and the Disney+Hotstar series, Grahan. The film has already been shot for a month in Lucknow and is expected to be completed by this month-end.

This project marks Kashyap’s first collaboration with Amazon Prime Video after co-directing one of India's most popular web series, “Sacred Games," for rival streamer Netflix in 2018. The filmmaker has partnered with Amazon Prime following the abrupt cancellation of his ambitious “Maximum City” project by Netflix due to political concerns in 2022. This new project also signifies Amazon Prime’s expansion into feature films, with five movies already in the pipeline, including Abhishek Bachchan’s Be Happy, Nushrratt Bharuccha’s Chhorii 2, Anil Kapoor’s Subedar, Adarsh Gourav and Shashank Arora’s Superboys of Malegaon, and Avinash Tiwary and Boman Irani’s The Mehta Boys.

Meanwhile, Kashyap will resume shooting for his Bobby Deol film in September 2024. The project, as we exclusively revealed in May, is a hard-hitting thriller based on a sensitive true event and also features Sanya Malhotra, Joju George, and Saba Azad in pivotal roles. Nikhil Dwivedi is producing this, while Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee have written.
