EXCLUSIVE BUZZ: Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par likely to be postponed as the film requires additional time for post-production

The Christmas 2024 weekend is becoming less competitive. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Aamir Khan’s much-awaited Sitaare Zameen Par is highly likely to be postponed, leaving Hollywood’s Mufasa: The Lion King with a solo release on December 20, 2024.

The sports comedy, directed by Shubh Mangal Saavdhan fame R.S. Prasanna, will apparently not be able to achieve its post-production timeline, thereby missing its pre-Christmas release date as originally scheduled. The makers are yet to officially decide the postponement, but sources say the film is unlikely to be ready for release in December. “Aamir is happy with how the film is shaping up, and he's excited to bring it to audiences. However, post-production requires some more time for what Aamir wants to accomplish with it, and being the perfectionist that he is, Aamir would rather delay the release than compromise on quality. The film is expected to be delayed by at least three months," a source close to the production revealed.

Further fuelling speculation about the postponement is the fact that Jio Studios, a co-producer of Sitaare Zameen Par, has already scheduled the release of another film, Varun Dhawan's Baby John, for the same coveted Christmas weekend on December 25, 2024. Aamir Khan's film would be the second major Bollywood release to shift away from the Christmas slot, following Akshay Kumar's Welcome to the Jungle, which was also postponed due to production setbacks.

Sitaare Zameen Par is an Indian adaptation of the critically acclaimed Spanish film Campeones, which tells the story of an arrogant and self-centred basketball coach who, as part of his community service sentence, forms a Special Olympics team made up of intellectually disabled players. The film follows a classic narrative arc, with Aamir Khan’s character undergoing personal growth as he learns valuable life lessons and redefines his understanding of "normal." Genelia Deshmukh plays the female lead, while much of the supporting cast consists of real-life athletes with disabilities, adding authenticity to the story.
