Aanand L Rai is a maverick filmmaker who has redefined Indian cinema, making films as a director and producer. He has delivered some amazing movies that are still cherished and celebrated. However on the other hand he also had his share of flops. While enjoying great films like Tanu Weds Manu, Raanjhanaa, Manmarziyaan, and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan he also experienced failure with Zero and others. In an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon Aanand L Rai shared how he deals when his movies turn flop at the box office. He opened on failure of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero and how he did not let it affect him.
Speaking to us the filmmaker shared his idea of addressing failures. He said, “For me, it is an experience. The way I took the success of Tanu Weds Manu or Tanu Weds Manu Returns or the way I took the failure of Zero, both have taught me lessons. I had a great journey of 3 years while making Zero, those were best 3 years of my life and nobody can take that away from me. That’s a fact that it had got a great take off as a story but it never landed well.”
He continued, “I always feel jab tak success ne mera dimag nahi kharab kiya toh failure mera dil bhi nahi tod sakta. So it is all about getting experience in life, it's all about journey. Am I enjoying that’s important. Yes my final destination is my audience they should love it. Rishto me narazgi aajati hai toh main film na chalne ko naarazgi manta hu rishtaa tutna nahi.” Further stating how important is the experience, he said, “If my film is not teaching me then there is no point of making that film.”
