EXCLUSIVE: R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh to star in Dharmatic Entertainment’s romantic comedy for Netflix

Karan Johar's Dharmatic Entertainment is speeding up its business. The digital subsidiary of Dharma Productions, which is already enjoying a successful year with multiple OTT releases, is adding project after project to its ever-expanding roster. We revealed about a Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Ranta movie a few months back, and now we hear they've greenlighted one more project for 2025.

Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Dharmatic Entertainment has now set up a romantic comedy starring R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead roles. The film is said to be a quirky love story revolving around an older man and a younger woman and will be directed by Vivek Soni, who previously helmed the company’s highly praised Meenakshi Sundareshwar. Radhika Anand (Broken But Beautiful, The Fame Game) and Jehan Handa (Showtime, Sarzameen) have written this beautiful tale of unusual romance, set to go on floors at the end of October.

Dharmatic Entertainment has joined forces with Netflix for this yet-untitled project, extending their partnership with the global streamer following successful collaborations on movies and shows like Guilty, Ajeeb Daastaans, Searching for Sheela, Meenakshi Sundareshwar, Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, and The Fame Game. This new rom-com marks their third joint venture in recent months, after greenlighting the Konkona Sen Sharma-Pratibha Ranta film and an airline-themed show created by Karan Johar, both of which are currently in pre-production.

The Vivek Soni directorial marks a change of sort for R. Madhavan as it signifies a departure from his recent unconventional roles, offering him a chance to return as a romantic hero after several years. It will also be his second collaboration with Dharma Productions after his role in the forthcoming Akshay Kumar starrer C. Shankaran Nair biopic. As for his collaboration with Netflix, he has previously worked with the streaming giant on Hardik Mehta’s comedy series, Decoupled, and Yash Raj Films' maiden series, The Railway Men.

Fatima Sana Shaikh, on the other hand, returns to Dharmatic Entertainment after three years. Her previous collaboration with the production banner and Netflix was the anthology, Ajeeb Daastaans, in which she starred in Shashank Khaitan’s short film alongside Jaideep Ahlawat. Coming up next, she has Anurag Basu’s Metro…In Dino and Vibhu Puri’s Ul Jalool Ishq lined up ahead.

Speaking of Dharma Productions, the content studio is having a prolific year with five releases so far: Love Storiyaan (Amazon Prime), Showtime (Disney+Hotstar), Ae Watan Mere Watan (Amazon Prime), Gyaarah Gyaarah (ZEE5), and Call Me Bae (Amazon Prime). Their sixth release, The Tribe, is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 4, and will be followed by Tamannah Bhatia and Diana Penty’s startup comedy, Daring Partners, later this year.
