EXCLUSIVE: Dinesh Vijan shelves a thriller and plans a rom-com with Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor

Dinesh Vijan, who's riding high on the historic box office success of Stree 2, has signed Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor for his next production. Although rumours of this collaboration have been circulating in the media for over a year, Maddock Films is now finally proceeding ahead with this project, albeit with some significant changes.

Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Sidharth and Janhvi are now teaming up on a completely different project than what they were initially committed to. The makers have shelved the previously planned thriller film (titled Spider) and have instead set up a new romantic comedy film with them, with Dasvi fame Tushar Jalota being constant to direct it under the Maddock Films banner.

“Dinesh Vijan had initially signed Sidharth and Janhvi for a gritty thriller, with Tushar on board as the director. However, over time, both Dinesh and Sidharth realized that the script had limited potential at the box office, as audiences now prefer to watch thriller content on OTT platforms rather than in theatres. They mutually decided to scrap the project and started exploring other story ideas with Tushar. After mulling over several ideas, they zeroed in on a romantic comedy, which Janhvi also liked and quickly came on board. It's the same team with a new script, finally ready to take off,” an industry source familiar with the development told us.

The latest romcom has tentatively been titled Param Sundari, which is named after a popular song from Maddock Films’ Mini starring Kriti Sanon. Although the plot and other details are not known yet, it's believed to fall in the realm of a family-centered romantic comedy, akin to Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, one of the earlier hits from Maddock Films this year. Sid and Janhvi will be seen showcasing a sizzling chemistry in this film, which will also feature an ensemble supporting cast. The film is currently in pre-production and is expected to get off the ground in November or December.

This film marks Sidharth's first collaboration with Maddock Films and second for Janhvi after the forgettable Roohi. It will also be the first project Sidharth is set to shoot following the recent failure of Yodha, marking his return to the rom-com genre after over a decade. Meanwhile, Janhvi will get to this film after finishing Shashank Khaitan's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari with Varun Dhawan and Neeraj Ghaywan's upcoming drama film with Ishaan Khatter.
