EXCLUSIVE BUZZ: Hrithik Roshan exploring Will Smith’s I Am Legend adaptation

After testing the waters with Top Gun-style aerial action with Siddharth Anand’s Fighter earlier this year, Hrithik Roshan is eyeing another genre-bending project.

Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Hrithik is exploring adapting Will Smith’s 2007 Hollywood movie, I Am Legend. The Bollywood superstar has acquired the Hindi adaptation rights of the post-apocalyptic action thriller and is actively developing it under his own production banner. Although this is currently at the very initial stage of the development, it's believed to be a passion project for Hrithik, who hopes to bring zombie-themed cinema into mainstream Bollywood in the most effective way.

This is the same post-apocalyptic thriller project we reported about in June 2024. Hrithik was initially discussing it with Bajrangi Bhaijaan director Kabir Khan, but the talks fell through after their creative vision for its Indian adaptation didn't align. The search is still on to find the best-suited director for what's being referred to as Hrithik's most ambitious production effort. Although he has begun preliminary discussions with a director who recently delivered a critically acclaimed action thriller, these talks are still in their infancy.

Note that the project is early in the development process, but if this materializes, Hrithik will be seen stepping into the shoes of Will Smith to play the last man on Earth fighting for survival in a deserted city teeming with nocturnal, bloodthirsty mutants. No specific timeline is set for this film yet, but it's expected to go into production only after Krrish 4. The fourth installment of the superhero saga has been in development for several years and is finally set to commence principal photography next year, with Sidharth Anand and Rakesh Roshan producing and Agneepath fame Karan Malhotra on board to direct.

Apart from I Am Legend, Hrithik is fielding a slew of other projects as well. He is discussing a commercial social drama with a South Indian director and is also a prime contender for Siddharth Anand’s next action thriller. Currently, he is preparing for a high-octane cameo appearance for Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s Alpha, scheduled to be shot in a Mumbai studio next week. After completing this cameo, he will head straight into a 20-day climax shoot for his highly anticipated War 2. The Ayan Mukherji-directed spy action entertainer releases in theatres on August 15, 2025.
