Peeping Moon Exclusive: Irrfan Khan’s son Babil to headline Baby remake for Madhu Mantena’s banner

Remakes might have stopped working at the box office, but the trend of remaking is far from dying. Varun Dhawan has the Theri remake, Baby John, coming up on December 25, while Shahid Kapoor steps into the shoes of Prithviraj Sukumaran for the Mumbai Police remake, Devaa. Aamir Khan is adapting the Spanish sports comedy Campeones as Sitare Zameen Par, and following in his footsteps is his son Junaid Khan, who will feature in the Hindi remakes of Tamil romcom Love Today and Thai romantic drama One Day.

Adding to the list of upcoming remakes now is Baby, last year's hit coming-of-age Telugu romantic drama. PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that Baby is getting a Bollywood makeover with Irrfan Khan's son Babil Khan set to play the lead. Babil will play the role originally essayed by Anand Deverakonda, while the heroine opposite him to reprise Vaishnavi Chaitanya’s character hasn't been finalized yet. South Indian actress Krithy Shetty (Uppena) is rumoured to be in talks for the female lead, but she hasn't been locked in yet.

Madhu Mantena is producing this film in collaboration with Allu Aravind’s Geetha Arts and the original producer, Sreenivasa Kumar Naidu. They have brought on board the original director Sai Rajesh to helm the remake, revolving around two high school sweethearts whose relationship faces challenges as they navigate different paths in life. Described as an emotional rollercoaster that explores the intricacies of first love and the fragile ties of friendship, Baby portrays the bittersweet journey of discovering what true love means in the face of temptation and personal growth. The film is currently in pre-production and goes on floors early next year.

Babil Khan made his Bollywood debut with Anvita Dutt’s critically acclaimed period psychological drama, Qala (2022), and since then has featured in the coming-of-age comedy, Friday Night Plan, and Yash Raj Films' maiden web series, The Railway Men. Lined up ahead for him is a heart-touching love story, produced by Shoojit Sircar.
