Peeping Moon EXCLUSIVE: Imran Khan to romance Bhumi Pednekar in his comeback Netflix film

Imran Khan has found his leading lady for his eagerly-awaited comeback project. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Bhumi Pednekar has been locked opposite Imran in Netflix India's romantic comedy, directed by Danish Aslam.

Imran and Bhumi will make up for an unconventional romantic pair in what is being described as a dysfunctional romantic dramedy. Bhumi is not contractually signed yet, but she's verbally on board and is excited to explore a lighthearted genre after a string of intense roles in movies like Bhakshak, Afwaah, and Bheed. This project marks Bhumi’s third collaboration with Netflix India following the critically acclaimed Bhakshak and the forthcoming The Royals, a modern-day Indian royalty rom-com series, co-starring Ishaan Khatter.

The yet-untitled project is said to be a breezy entertainer that offers a fresh take on the kind of roles that made Imran a household name. Danish Aslam, who previously helmed Imran and Deepika Padukone’s much-loved 2010 rom-com, Break Ke Baad, is directing this film from the script written by Suhani Kanwar. Imran and Danish are also producing it in partnership with Open Air Films, a content company behind Netflix projects like Leila and Cobalt Blue. The film is currently in the writing stage, with the final draft expected by next month, after which pre-production will officially commence. Shooting is tentatively scheduled to start in March 2025.

Imran Khan, known for his charming roles in romantic comedies such as Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, I Hate Luv Storys, Break Ke Baad, and Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, has been hinting at his return to movies since last year. He was previously supposed to make his comeback with an espionage thriller series by Abbas Tyrewala for Disney+Hotstar, set in the secretive realm of South Asian counterintelligence. However, that project was shelved due to the merger between Reliance Industries and The Walt Disney Company. This Netflix project finally marks his official return, much to the delight of fans eager to see him charm audiences once more.

Talking of Bhumi Pednekar, she will next be seen playing a cop investigating a series of murders committed by a cold-blooded serial killer in Amazon Prime Video’s crime thriller series, Daldal. It will be followed by Netflix India's The Royals, after which she's expected to shoot for Pati, Patni Aur Woh 2 with Kartik Aaryan. The actress also has Mere Biwi Ki Husband with Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet ready for release, but that film is lying unsold for reasons unknown.
