More Dharmatic content is on its way to Netflix India. The digital content arm of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is joining hands with the global streamer on multiple projects, and their association is only growing over time.
Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Dharmatic Entertainment and Netflix India are now teaming up for a new romantic comedy, titled Naadaniyaan. The film stars Saif Ali Khan’s son Ibrahim Ali Khan and late Sridevi and Boney Kapoor's younger daughter Khushi Kapoor in the lead roles. Suniel Shetty and Dia Mirza also play pivotal parts in what's being described as a fun, breezy teenage romcom.
Shauna Gautam, who has previously assisted on films like Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju and Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani, makes her directorial debut with this project. Riva Razdan Kapoor has written the story and screenplay, while Ishita Moitra and Jehan Handa penned the dialogues. The film is currently in the post-production stage and is expected to premiere on Netflix in the first half of 2025. The OTT platform was previously planning to drop it during the Valentine's Day weekend, but that seems unlikely considering Khushi’s other film, Love Today Remake, is already lined up for theatrical release on February 7, 2025.
Naadaniyaan marks Ibrahim Ali Khan's third project, following Dharma Productions’ Sarzameen with Kajol and Prithviraj Sukumaran and Maddock Films’ Diler, directed by Jannat fame Kunal Deshmukh. Sarzameen is expected to be his launch vehicle, while Diler is currently in production, with South Indian sensation Sreeleela paired as the leading lady.
As for Khushi Kapoor, this project marks her second collaboration with Netflix, following her debut with Zoya Akhtar's musical comedy, The Archies last year. Before this, she will be seen opposite Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan in Phantom Studios’ Hindi remake of the Tamil hit Love Today, marking her first theatrical release.
This romcom continues Dharmatic and Netflix’s fruitful partnership, following successful collaborations on movies and shows like Guilty, Ajeeb Daastaans, Searching for Sheela, Meenakshi Sundareshwar, Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, and The Fame Game. The two companies recently collaborated on two new movies and one airline-based web series. The recently greenlit films include Anubhuti Kashyap's relationship drama starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Ranta and Meenakshi Sundareshwar fame Vivek Soni’s quirky romcom starring R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh. Both films are currently in production and are set to premiere on Netflix in 2025.
