Peeping Moon EXCLUSIVE: Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Chitrangda Singh team up for Netflix India’s Raat Akeli Hai 2

Netflix India is bringing back one of its most popular whodunit thrillers. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that the streaming giant is working on the sequel to Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s 2020 murder mystery, Raat Akeli Hai.

Nawazuddin will return to reprise his role as the small-town inspector Jatil Yadav, while Chitrangda Singh has been roped in to play the female lead. Although details about the plot and character dynamics have all been shrouded in secrecy, it's anticipated that the story will follow a traditional sequel format with Jatil Yadav tackling another intricate, high-profile case.

This collaboration marks a significant moment for Nawazuddin and Chitrangda, who were previously set to work together on Kushan Nandi’s 2017 film "Babumoshai Bandookbaaz." However, the actress had left that project due to discomfort with intimate scenes. They seem to have mended their eight-year-old past differences and are excited to collaborate on this nail-biting murder mystery.

Casting director-turned-filmmaker Honey Trehn will direct it again from the script written by Smita Singh Khan, who also penned the first part. Trehan will also produce it under his and Abhishek Chaubey’s banner, Macguffin Pictures, in association with Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies. The film is currently in pre-production and will go on floors next month, eyeing a late 2025 premiere.

The original Raat Akeli Hai revolved around a small-town police officer investigating the murder of a politician, which gets further complicated by the victim’s secretive family and the inspector’s own conflicted heart. Radhika Apte and Shweta Tripathi also starred in the film, which was lauded for its compelling performances and intriguing narrative.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui will start shooting for Raat Akeli Hai 2 after finishing Maddock Films’ Thama. He plays an antagonist in this Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer horror comedy. The Sacred Games actor also has three more movies lined up ahead: romantic comedies Bole Chudiyaan and Noorani Chehra, and Bhavesh Mandalia’s Lion King.

Chitrangda Singh, meanwhile, will next be seen in Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 5, scheduled for release on June 6, 2025. She is also doing Neeraj Pandey's Netflix series, Khakee: The Bengal Chapter.
