On December 15, 2023 Peepingmoon.com exclusively revealed that ace filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani is venturing into the OTT sphere with a Disney+ Hotstar series starring Vikrant Massey in the lead. Over a year later, the project has seen significant changes in its casting and direction, transforming considerably from its original version.
We have learned that Vikrant Massey is not playing the lead protagonist in the show anymore. Instead, he will now portray the main villain, a stark departure from his originally intended role. While the reasons for this dramatic shift remain unknown, sources speculate that Vikrant’s scheduling conflicts and his keen interest in the villainous character may have influenced this decision. Notably, Vikrant opted for the negative part in Dinesh Vijan's Sector 36 too when everyone expected him to play a conventional hero's role.
Tentatively titled Pritam Pedro, the show will now star Rajkumar Hirani's son Vir Hirani and Arshad Warsi in the lead roles. Vir takes on the role initially intended for Vikrant—a young, tech-savvy police officer, while Arshad Warsi will play Pedro, an experienced cop who relies on traditional investigative methods. The show marks a significant milestone for Hirani, as he not only launches his son into the film industry but also collaborates with Arshad Warsi nearly 19 years after their classic Munna Bhai franchise.
Furthermore, the directorial team has also expanded. National Award-winning filmmaker Avinash Arun, who's popularly known for directing Jaideep Ahlawat's Amazon Prime series, Paatal Lok, has joined the Disney+ Hotstar series as a co-director alongside ad filmmaker Amit Satyaveer Singh. The series is currently being filmed in Mumbai, with production expected to wrap up by March 2025.
Billed as a cybercrime thriller infused with Rajkumar Hirani’s trademark humor, Pritam Pedro focuses on the dynamic between two starkly different police officers, played by Vir Hirani and Arshad Warsi. This show is one of the final projects Vikrant is committed to before embarking on a year-long acting hiatus in 2026. The 12th Fail actor is also doing a Ruskin Bond love story, titled Aankon Ki Gustaakhiyan, and Ranveer Singh’s Don 3, scheduled to get off the ground in July 2025.
