Four years after captivating audiences with Shershaah, Karan Johar and Sidharth Malhotra are contemplating another reunion. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that the producer-actor duo are discussing collaborating on a new drama film.
Details of the project have been shrouded in secrecy at this moment, but sources reveal that they are negotiating for a film set to be directed by Sharan Sharma. The filmmaker, who's popularly known for directing Janhvi Kapoor's Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl and last year's sports drama, Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, is next working on an emotionally charged human drama. Karan Johar envisions Sidharth as a perfect fit for this film, and the actor has also responded positively to the initial narration. He has given a verbal nod and is waiting for the full script before formally signing it.
If this project comes to fruition, it will mark the sixth collaboration between Karan Johar and Sidharth Malhotra within 13 years, following Student of the Year (2012), Hasee Toh Phasee (2014), Brothers (2015), Kapoor & Sons (2016), and Shershaah (2021). The shooting timeline for this new venture is not yet finalized, but it largely depends on Sidharth's scheduling, taking into account his packed calendar for the year.
Currently, Sidharth is in Kerala, shooting with Janhvi Kapoor for Dinesh Vijan’s romantic comedy, Param Sundari. Soon after wrapping it up, he will head straight to TVF and Ekta Kapoor's folk thriller, Vvan - Force of the Forest. He stars alongside Sara Ali Khan in this Chhath 2025 release, set to go on floors around March-April 2025. The Ek Villain actor is also in preliminary talks with Ramesh Taurani to join Saif Ali Khan in Race 4, but the production timeline on that film still remains uncertain. The scheduling of the Dharma project will largely hinge on when Race 4 goes into production.
Meanwhile, Dharma Productions has five theatrical films lined up for release this year. The slate includes Akshay Kumar’s C. Shankaran Nair biopic (March 14), Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (April 18), Shiddant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri's Dhadak 2, Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s untitled rom-com, and Kajol and Ibrahim Ali Khan's Sarzameen. In addition, the company is also set to commence production on several new films, such as Kartik Aaryan and Sameer Vidwans' recently announced Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, Lakshya and Ananya Panday's Chand Mera Dil, and Neeraj Ghaywan’s film starring Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi, and Vishal Jethwa.
