Hopefully, nobody will call this a case of nepotism. But buzz is that Luv Ranjan is launching his brother-in-law Kunal Vaid in Bollywood. And the film he has reportedly chosen is a rom-com which he is said to be co-producing with Shashank Khaitan, another celebrated film director. However, neither of them will be directing this buddy comedy if the news is true. That task will go to Anuj Saini, who previously assisted Khaitan on films like ‘Dhadak’ and ‘Govinda Naam Mera’.
The yet-untitled project is said to be along the lines of Ranjan’s widely popular film franchise ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ and will reportedly launch two more newcomers alongside Kunal Vaid. The narrative is believed to center around two boys and a girl during a school reunion, and promises unabashed humor and a fresh, fun take on friendship.
Ranjan and Khaitan are known for nurturing new talent. Anuj Saini is said to have co-written the script with Jehan Handa, whose previous writing credit includes Emraan Hashmi’s Disney+ Hotstar series ‘Showtime’.
Kunal Vaid is an aspiring actor and the brother of Ranjan’s wife, Alisha Vaid. He is believed to have previously acted in theatrical plays and will formally make his Bollywood debut with this friendship comedy. He has already begun preparing for his role, sources say, while the casting for another guy and the leading lady is still underway. The film is likely to go on the floors around March-April 2025.
This buddy comedy will be the latest addition to Luv Ranjan’s upcoming production slate. Others lined up at Luv Films include Ajay Devgn’s ‘De De Pyaar De 2’ and an action-adventure film with Ajay, directed by Jagan Shakti. Meanwhile, Shashank Khaitan is gearing up for Varun Dhawan’s and Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ and will follow that up with a Netflix series starring Vir Das in the lead.
