Peeping Moon EXCLUSIVE: Sonakshi Sinha and Jyotika to headline Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s courtroom drama for Amazon Prime Video

Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao, and Kriti Sanon's 2017 romantic comedy, ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi,’ is set for a re-release in cinemas this Friday. While this news has everyone involved with the film buzzing with excitement, the film's director, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, has even more to celebrate. The ‘Nil Battey Sannata’ and ‘Panga’ filmmaker is gearing up for her next directorial after a two-year hiatus.

Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Ashwiny has cast Sonakshi Sinha and Jyotika to headline her next feature film. The project is described as a courtroom drama and will premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video. Plot and character details are currently shrouded in secrecy, but it's anticipated to be a gripping narrative centered around a battle for justice, promising an intense and immersive viewing experience for audiences. Shooting is scheduled to commence next month in Mumbai.

The yet-untitled film will be produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment in collaboration with Harman Baweja’s Baweja Studios, which is known for producing MX Player hit series, ‘Bhaukaal,’ and the recently released Sanya Malhotra starrer ‘Mrs.’ The two production companies are partnering on three projects, with the others being an action-adventure film and a vigilante action series, details of which are currently being kept confidential.

This project has been in development for the past two years and was initially offered to Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kiara Advani. However, the negotiations did not materialize at the time, leading to significant delays. It’s finally moving ahead as an Amazon Prime Original with Sonakshi and Jyotika frontlining the thrilling narrative. This is Sonakshi’s first legal drama, while Jyotika returns to the genre five years after brilliantly playing a rookie lawyer in the 2020 Tamil film, Ponmagal Vandhal.

The film also adds to Amazon Prime India’s slate of upcoming original feature films. This year, the streaming giant plans to release about half a dozen new movies, starting with ‘The Mehta Boys,’ starring Avinash Tiwary and Boman Irani, which premieres this Friday. Other anticipated releases include Anil Kapoor's ‘Subedar,’ Abhishek Bachchan’s ‘Be Happy,’ Nusshratt Bharruccha’s ‘Chorii 2,’ and Anurag Kashyap’s thriller film starring Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's grandson, Aaishvary Thackeray.
