Six years after the critically acclaimed ‘Laila Majnu,’ Imtiaz Ali is collaborating with Avinash Tiwary again. However, it’s not for an Imtiaz Ali directorial venture as is being widely speculated in the media.
Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Avinash Tiwary is teaming up with the ‘Jab We Met’ director on a Netflix series. Avinash will star alongside Arjun Rampal and Aditi Rao Hydari in this romantic drama series. Ahsaas Channa, who's popularly known for her roles in ‘Girls Hostel,’ ‘Kota Factory,’ ‘Mismatched,’ and ‘Half CA,’ has also joined this ensemble. Production is scheduled to commence in the coming weeks.
Contrary to rumours, Imtiaz Ali will not be directing the series but will only serve as its writer and showrunner. Directorial responsibilities have been entrusted to his brother, Arif Ali, who previously co-directed Netflix’s crime thriller series, S’he.’ Imtiaz is also producing the series under his banner, Window Seat Films.
Tentatively titled ‘O Saathi Rey,’ the show is being described as an intense, emotionally driven romantic drama that explores the complexities of an extramarital affair. Arjun Rampal and Aditi Rao Hydari are expected to portray a married couple, with Avinash Tiwary playing the third person who disrupts their relationship. The unconventional pairing and intriguing storyline promise a fresh and compelling take on romance, offering viewers an engaging and thought-provoking experience.
This project marks Avinash Tiwary's return to the romantic genre, following his recent explorations in various other genres. It will be his sixth venture with Netflix India, following previous collaborations on ‘Ghost Stories,’ ‘Bulbbul,’ ‘The Girl on the Train,’ ‘Khakee: The Bihar Chapter,’ and ‘Sikandar Ka Muqaddar.’ Looking ahead, he has Boman Irani's directorial debut, ‘The Mehta Boys,’ scheduled to premiere tomorrow on Amazon Prime Video.
Meanwhile, Imtiaz Ali has two directorial projects lined up for this year. The first is a period love story featuring Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, and Vedang Raina, while the second project stars Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil and Triptii Dimri in lead roles.
