Peeping Moon EXCLUSIVE: Mirzapur star Ali Fazal to headline Paatal Lok director’s next Amazon Prime series

An exciting new collaboration is taking shape within the corridors of Amazon Prime India. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that the streaming giant is developing a new thriller series starring Ali Fazal, the standout star of its immensely popular show, ‘Mirzapur.’

Details about the project have been shrouded in secrecy, but it's believed to be an original action thriller series that will see Ali Fazal venturing into a territory vastly different from his previous roles. The yet-untitled show promises to blend high-octane action with dramatic storytelling, aiming to captivate audiences with its fresh narrative and dynamic performances. ‘Sarfarosh’ actress Shonali Bendre, who was last seen in Zee5’s ‘The Broken News,’ will also star in a pivotal role. The show is expected to feature an ensemble cast of prominent OTT stars, though the casting is still being finalized.

Scheduled to begin production in mid-2025, the yet-untitled series will be helmed by Prosit Roy, who previously co-directed Amazon Prime’s critically acclaimed first season of ‘Paatal Lok.’ Prosit is finally moving on to this new project after years of no clarity on the release of his last directorial venture, ‘Chakda Xpress’ starring Anushka Sharma. The show will be produced by Endemol Shine India, known for creating compelling and cutting-edge content-led shows like ‘Trial By Fire,’ ‘Aarya,’ and ‘Bombay Begums.’

Ali Fazal will commence shooting for this project after finishing Raj & DK’s Netflix series, ‘Rakt Bramhand,’ where he stars alongside Aditya Roy Kapur, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Wamiqa Gabbi. The ‘Fukrey’ actor has a packed schedule with multiple films lined up for release this year. The slate includes Anurag Basu’s long-delayed anthology ‘Metro…In Dino,’ Rajkumar Santoshi’s Sunny Deol starrer ‘Lahore 1947,’ Kamal Haasan’s ‘Thug Life,’ and the Hollywood film, ‘Rule Breakers,’ which is set to release in theatres next month. Additionally, he also has ‘Mirzapur: The Film’ in the development stage, with production expected to start in the second half of 2025.
