Fifteen years in the industry and 18 films later, Ranveer Singh is set to embark on a new creative journey. PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that the ‘Baijrao Mastani’ actor is venturing into film production, with plans to launch his own production company this year.
Ranveer has already registered a production company and is in the process of setting up its office near his luxurious apartment in Mumbai’s Prabhadevi. He has also begun curating projects, with filmmaker Aditya Dhar— who is directing him in ‘Dhurandhar’ and also runs his own production company —assisting him in the development process. One of the flagship projects Ranveer is developing under the banner is said to be a larger-than-life mythological film. While details remain scarce, industry insiders speculate that it could be ‘The Immortal Ashwatthama,’ Aditya Dhar’s long-anticipated mega-scale film, which Ranveer and Dhar may collaborate on to revive. Ranveer is also actively trying to put together a high-concept post-apocalyptic action film.
Ranveer’s foray into production comes at a time when his recent films have all underperformed at the box office, and several of his potential projects have stalled due to budgetary constraints. “This seems like a strategic move on Ranveer’s part. He wants to be more creatively involved in his projects rather than leaving their fate entirely in the hands of others. As a producer, he can create opportunities for himself, taking on roles and films that might not otherwise come his way. He wants to take charge and collaborate with like-minded individuals to produce challenging and unconventional cinema,” an industry source revealed.
Production has been on Ranveer’s radar for years. He had previously registered a production company named “Maa Kasam Films” in December 2017, but it was never officially launched for reasons unknown. It’s yet unclear whether he is reviving this earlier venture or launching a brand new company altogether. What is certain, however, is that Ranveer is now fully committed to building his production house. His wife, Deepika Padukone, who also owns a production company named KA Productions, is also offering her support and expertise to help him navigate this new terrain.
As for Ranveer’s upcoming projects, his only confirmed release this year is Aditya Dhar’s espionage action thriller ‘Dhurandhar.’ In this high-budget, 250-crore production, he portrays a RAW agent on a mission in Pakistan, alongside an ensemble cast featuring Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal. Farhan Akhtar's ‘Don 3’ is scheduled to begin filming in June, but it seems unlikely to start on time as Akhtar is still engaged with his acting project and has not even started pre-production. Meanwhile, Ranveer's long-gestating superhero film ‘Shaktiman’ has been officially put on indefinite hold.
