Parineeti Chopra is not chasing bubbly, lighthearted roles anymore. In what is being called her career’s second innings following her marriage to Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha in September 2023, the ‘Ishaqzaade’ actress aims to take on more challenging and complex roles that redefine her as an actor. And she seems to have already found a project that is poised to showcase her in an entirely new light.
Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Parineeti Chopra is foraying into the web series space with a Netflix India thriller drama. Described as a gripping mystery thriller set against the picturesque backdrop of Shimla, the series will see Parineeti stepping into another commanding role that further solidifies her reputation as a versatile performer. She will star alongside an ensemble cast of accomplished actors, bringing to life a crime drama brimming with suspense and intrigue. The stellar ensemble cast includes Jennifer Winget, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Anup Soni, Harleen Sethi, Soni Razdan, Sumeet Vyas, and Chaitannya Choudhry.
The series will be directed by Rensil D’Silva, a celebrated screenwriter acclaimed for his work on films like ‘Rang De Basanti,’ ‘Kurbaan,’ and ‘Ungli,’ as well as the Amazon Prime series ‘Bambai Meri Jaan.’ Rensil serves as the writer, co-creator, and director of this project, which is being produced by ‘Hichki’ and ‘Maharaj’ director Siddharth P. Malhotra along with Sapna Malhotra under their banner, Alchemy Productions. The screenplay is co-written by Rensil and Riva Razdan, with dialogues crafted by Abbas Dalal and Hussain Dalal. Production for the series commenced last week in Mumbai, and it is expected to premiere on Netflix early next year.
Speaking to the exciting new series and cast, the creators Siddharth Malhotra and Rensil D’silva shared, “We are thrilled to collaborate on this mystery thriller with Netflix, a platform that celebrates storytelling in its most diverse and compelling forms. Working with Netflix has allowed us the creative freedom to push boundaries and bring a unique narrative to life. With a cast as talented as this and Parineeti choosing to foray into series with our production, we are excited for what lies ahead and cannot wait for the world to watch the mystery unfold.”
Tanya Bami, Series Head, Netflix India, added, “Some mysteries don’t just unfold—they pull you in, keep you guessing, and refuse to let go. Set against the misty hills of Shimla, this gripping thriller unravels secrets, emotions, and the depths of human nature with unmatched intensity. With the creative vision of Rensil D’Silva and Siddharth P. Malhotra, and a powerhouse cast featuring Tahir Raj Bhasin, Anup Soni, and Harleen Sethi, the series captivates from the very first scene. We are delighted to welcome Parineeti Chopra back to Netflix following her stellar performance in Amar Singh Chamkila—now in her first-ever series and we’re equally excited to have Jennifer Winget join us: Prepare for a journey that will keep you on the edge of your seat, hooked and guessing until the very end.”
This series marks Parineeti’s fourth collaboration with Netflix India. Her previous projects with the platform include Ribhu Dasgupta’s ‘The Girl on the Train,’ Imtiaz Ali’s biographical drama ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ alongside Diljit Dosanjh, and an untitled romantic comedy directed by Dhruv Tripathi. The latter, which began production in December and has already been wrapped up, however, still awaits an official announcement.
