Netflix India is adding another anthology to its ever-expanding content lineup. PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that the global streaming giant has renewed its popular anthology series ‘Lust Stories’ for a third season, exploring themes of female sexuality through more diverse and thought-provoking narratives.
The anthology will be produced by Ronnie Screwvala under RSVP Movies and Ashi Dua through Flying Unicorn Entertainment. The directors haven't been locked yet, but we hear accomplished and critically acclaimed filmmakers such as Vikramaditya Motwane (‘Jubilee’, ‘Black Warrant’), Kiran Rao (‘Dhobi Ghat’, ‘Laapata Ladies’), and Shakun Batra (‘Kapoor & Sons’, ‘Gehraiyaan’) are in advanced negotiations to direct the new stories. This new season is also expected to boast a robust ensemble cast featuring some of Bollywood's most prominent talents, though casting hasn't been finalized yet.
Much like its predecessors, ‘Lust Stories 3’ will also consist of four distinct and compelling stories, each delving into the themes of love, lust, power, and societal status. Staying true to the franchise’s essence, this new season also aims to push creative boundaries by presenting authentic portrayals of women who embrace their desires unapologetically while navigating the complexities of their emotional lives. Filming is expected to commence in the first half of this year, with a targeted Netflix premiere early next year.
The ‘Lust Stories’ franchise is acclaimed for its bold exploration of modern relationships through the lens of Indian women, addressing topics ranging from strained marriages to sexual complexities. The first season, which aired in 2018, was directed by Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, and Dibakar Banerjee and featured an ensemble cast comprising Vicky Kaushal, Radhika Apte, Bhumi Pednekar, Kiara Advani, Manisha Koirala, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Sanjay Kapoor, among others. ‘Lust Stories 2’, which came five years later in 2023, also starred notable Bollywood actors such as Kajol, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vijay Varma, Mrunal Thakur, Tillotama Shome, Neena Gupta, and Amruta Subhash, among others. The second season was directed by R. Balki, Konkona Sen Sharma, Sujoy Ghosh, and Amit Sharma.
